What is this cryptic statement?

God that is a rambling, odd and seemingly internally inconsistent statement. It seems so very contradictory.

In regards to Head Coach Mick Potter, there is no doubt that he has had some outstanding success as Coach and he was obviously a tremendously gifted player.

That aside, the Board and Management of the Club need to fully understand the position we find ourselves in and work with Mick to come to the best outcome for both himself and the club. There are many options we can consider. The most favourable of these options is to work with Mick to develop a coaching structure and provide the personnel the club needs to create a consistent winning attitude. This is a key priority for club CEO Grant Mayer.

The structural recommendations and personnel to fit these roles will be presented to the Board at the end of August.

That aside are the keywords here. Praise him in the first sentence but starting the second paragraph with that aside all but seals his fate.

Absolute joke of a statement....

I'm reading it as Potter is gone...

If that is the result, then my membership is not being renewed as well...

I hope i am wrong but it sounds like he is a dead man walking.If he is pushed aside to the bullshit coaching dirrector position it will be to suger coat the sacking.No senior player coming forward in support of Potter publically confirms his days may be numbered.

Of the below paragraph I think the highlighted portion highlights their true words;

I think the board is blaming Potter for the position on the ladder we are currently sitting. They talk about the 'position we find ourselves in' and to 'work with Mick for the best outcome for him and club'. I think they are looking to dump him.

Geez, the club has gone through the worst injury run I can remember. Potter has come through the mire left by Sheens and the board, you don't hear him complain, he is just getting on with his job. He doesn't seem to take crap of people and players and for that they threaten him...the guy is entitled to another season I reckon.

Shant be renewing nor watching if he's sacked.

I know we might be hard core supporters on a forum, but surely we represent a decent cross section of the fan base...

I also fear it will make recruitment of name players near impossible over the next 3-4 years..

Best thing the club could do now is hire Steve Folkes as the assistant coach with a view to becoming head coach in 2015 when Potters (and Sheens) contracts have ended.

Folkes' coaching era is over. We need a current coach with up to date methods and someone who wins the respect of the players.

The respect of the players ?? The players want someone they can ride roughshod over and who doesn't give a f**k about form, accountability or results so long as Bob gets picked and Bob organises lunches at the Oaks on a Thursday cos Bob is mates with Tom and Tom gets his head on the footy show.

Sheens allowed this culture to fester and the players were happy to go along with the ride. Now they are being called to account many don't like it.

No coach would have done any better than what Potter has with all the shit going on. I tell you what give Bellamy the sizzler as his assistant and Skando as his conditioner and see where the Storm go

On 2MMM Sydney today, they kept mentioning that 3 support staff at WT had gone.
The transcript clearly says that 3 support staff will not have their contracts renewed.
I know there have been recent rumours about Potter, but today's development seems pretty cut and dried to me.
A few here have interpreted the statement the same way.
Now, if WT are getting rid of support staff like it says . . . then Mayer and Potter ( and I guess the board) have accomplished a hell of a lot in a short period of time.
Who honestly would have thought we could have:
Moved Benji along without losing too much face;
Blooded and retained a talented core of the club's future stars;
Moved Blake along;
Gotten rid of Sizzler, et al;
ALL IN THE SPACE OF HALF A SEASON ???!!!!!

The mess we found ourselves in late last season was destined to take a few years to purge. Many of us were saying that it's going to be a few seasons before we got rid of the cancerous effects of the Sheens dynasty. The crew in charge have done most of it in a few months.

3 CHEERS FOR GRANT MAYER !!!

I like your take on this but I hope that Potter stays. I'm not convinced that he is out of the firing line yet.

Reading the press release,tells me Potter is going to have the choice of the door or a down grade.

Just cant believe how our dis functional board can bow to some players who are not getting their egos stroked. We are coming second last these players need a rocket under their bums and Potter is the man to do it.

Potter goes their will be four seat in the first row of the grandstand available at both Lo and Co next year.This board needs to know the vast majority of the punters support Potter

Firstly, I like Potter,he is the no nonsense coach that we had to have.
I didn't think that there were enough of the "lunch gang" left to cause trouble, but there must be, because anyone with some knowledge of the game can see that the side is basically not "playing to their ability" for him.
I personally would have told Benji and Blake to "invent an injury" as soon as it became clear that they were going.
A pat on the back for Blair, he has picked his game up, probably after a rocket from Potter

F**k,every day our behaviour is becoming more and more like Parramatta.Our position on the ladder is not entirely Potters fault for various reasons,every knob with half a brain knows that.
Blaming Potter for off field management is a crock of shit,sure a poor coach can have a negative effect on a team but i doubt he has been there long enough to gauge his true ability.
I gather then that he must also be to blame for a certain player who has a habit of getting home at 6am in the morning.Any player who is out that late is up to no good,it's about time the players took some responsibility for there performances rather than blaming others,the sooner the board realises this the better.

Respect is a two way street. It is earnt not given. I don't buy into your theory about players not willing to be called to account. There is a more fundamental issue. You are going to have difficulty gaining the respect of experienced players if they don't buy what you are trying to sell. And this does not mean so called clean outs or getting tough with players.
