What is wrong with the Broncos?

Lean times ahead for the Broncos imo, next year they will probably free up some good cash, then they need to recruit well.

The Broncos are going ok in terms of playing roster. Although the forwards are all old at this time. The problem is that Bennet doesnt want to give youngsters a go.

Smith has been a great buy, but why the hell do we play him at the ripe old age of 36 for one year. If he can just play a one year contract why not allow Ash Harrison to come here for a year then let him go to the Gold Coast. At of the yall oung forwards that were at the broncos. ie harrison, carlaw, webb, myres. Harrison has been the most consistent and we let him go. Should have got him for a year for a quik fix.

Broncos have good young forwards. Nick Kenny (awesome, future rep i believe and he couldnt even make regional rep sides), Nev Costigan (learns how to handle aggression and the ball, will be awesome), Sammy Thaiday (he is great), Clarke (dont know much of him but he sounds good), Eastwood (going to be a good player, dont know where he will play but he will be somewhere) Stagg (when he plays full time football will add attacking aggression to his already impressive game), That is all the good young forwards for the broncs.

The backs are looking even better. Parfitt (ready for 1st grade), Kemp (former soccer player, looks the goods), Bond (going to crack it soon), Leon Bott (future centre with plenty of speed and has shown what he is capable of) Steve Michaels (Getting a fair bit of interest from other clubs, future star) Hunt (is not even 19, massive future) There are more waiting in the wings for a chance too.

The problem will now be the half, 5/8 and Hooker. The most important positions on the field. Bennet will have to conger up a miracle to cover these. I heard Ennis is keen on the broncos, the broncos should chase him hard next time he is off contract.

Bennet imo should be a director of coaching for the broncos and let a new face take over. And also i believe that shaun berrigans position at centre should be looked at, if lockyer fires he looks good but if locky doesnt he is useless. I am a diehard bronco supporter but if berrigan gets into the aus touring squad it will be a joke.

Brett Seymour is absolute garbage.

Halfback my a.r.s.e!
VERY few things you have said in the past i disagree with, but that is one of them. A good side beaten by a better side. Thats where it should be left.

Locky was the Australian fullback FFS surely he could catch Benji....
Keyword: was. Its been 2 years since he played fullback and would have undoubtedly bulked up to help meet the defensive needs of a 5/8th. I'm more concerned about Seymours reluctance to atleast attempt a diving tackle.
If lockyer gets Australian 5/8 or captaincy its a dead set discrace.
Lockyers form is sh*t, but I fail to see how retaining the incumbent 5/8th and captain is a disgrace. Though personally it wouldn't bother me one bit; he probably needs a full offseason to be back to his best for us next season.
Cant belevie you guys are blaming the forwards though, they smashed tigers forwards. Had the broncos had a support player in their team they would have score atleast 5 trys from the forwards runs.
Corey Parker... if hes not over-rated ill eat my hat. What a player he is.
Their attack aint necessarily the problem, it's their lateral defence which has been costing us this season.

Probably because he is at the Roosters for the next 3 years.

Yeah but i think you will find that if he was able to have a 1 year contract with the broncs he would have taken it then headed to GC.

1. Lockyer
2. Hunt
3. Hodges
4. Tate
5. Bott or Michaels
6. Barnes
7. Seymour? (who else)
8. Webcke
9. B. Berrigan
10. Civoniceva
11. Carroll
12. Stagg
13. S. Berrigan

14. Smith
15. Thorn
16. Thaiday
17. McGuire

That team would've given any other team a run for their money. Shaun Berrigan, as explained on the Bronc's forum, could be potentially a devastating lock if utilised correctly.

Yeh I noticed that too Balmain boy. As you said they play like they did in 2000, but the game changed late 2002 and is still changing. Teams and coaches need to adapt to change.
I think this is the end of Bennett and the dawn of an era where the Broncos will not be as dominating as they once were.

Broncos to miss the 8 next year IMO.

Humm... i see your point, Webke missed an easy tackle that allowed hodgeson that massive break and led to a try.

Not having Barett in the number 6 would be a discrace. Barett is clearly playing better ATM, and has been for a fair few weeks.
Dont mind to much about captaincy, unless Joey is there... NOT because im a knights fan but because he is the best leader in the game.

Lockyer will get it because for 1) Bennent is the coach and 2)Reputation.

Also if a position was ever picked on form then Joey Johns wouldn't of been playing for NSW this year.

That's what i'd do with the current crop.

Bye Bye Seymour, Minto - they absolutely suck, as does Locky at 5/8.

They seriously need some mobility and skill in the forwards, but I don't know whats out there in Qld.

True, but when you consider how selections are probably 70% reputation, it would be rediculous for someone who has had so much success in the green and gold to dropped because of a form slump. I think it would be fairer to say it would be a disgrace if Barrett doesn't make the run-on side.

I too believe Johns is the better captain, but due to the conservative nature of selectors (and the fact that Bennett is coach) Lockyer will most likely retain the captaincy.

 @ Berrigan at half back. He's absolutely useless without a great distributor feeding him quality ball.

Here's the side I'd go for:

1. Lockyer
2. Michaels
3. Hodges
4. Tate
5. Bott/Kemp
6. Hunt
7. Seymour
8. Webcke
9. Barrigan
10. Civoniceva
11. Stagg
12. Carroll
13. Eastwood

14. S Berrigan
15. Thorn
16. Parker
17. Thaiday

It'll never happen though.

Yeh but how far do they get?
2 wins since 2001 is a sh*thouse finals record IMO.
The Broncos are blessed with an early season spurt when all players are fresh and no origin. Looking at the Toowoomba Clydesdales I see young players deserving a go while older players who are past ther best holding them back.

Broncos team won't have too many changes next year IMO they will probably find a new recruit and change their style.

Broncos however will need to blood a few players here and there if they want to be a force for the long term.

Mr Sharkies what is the go with you trying to get a bite out of people about Hunt. You are saying he is basiclly useless. He is a class act and you would do anything to have him at the sharks next year. Tell us why you are implying that he is sh*t.

Seymour's defence is pretty good and robust ... and we do need a long term hooker ... i'd be grooming him to take over for Baz (and fill in while Baz is injured - which is often)

Barnes to 7 if can get him back

Goodbye to Minto (who actually played pretty good today) and Carlaw

1 more season to Parker and Carroll or seeya

No more Darren Smith (also good today) but is preventing us from blooding new players

I'd probly go for a new coach, but WB will decide when

Oink !
