I've only been to a few.

I'm a member at Canterbury and a very frequent visitor. Very happy and comfortable with the food, the facilities and the gaming. They've undergone massive renovations over the last decade but still need to improve on providing better entertainment.

Canterbury - 7/10

I went to Illawarra Steelers last year and didn't find it very exciting. The ladies serving in the bistro and the general staff are all very polite and welcoming, despite the drab surroundings.

Steelers - 4/10

It's been a long time since I've been to Sharkies so I won't add a rating or comment on it.

I'm very interested to hear what other people think about some of the other Leagues clubs.

Easts, Wests, St George, Sharkies, Panthers and Canterbury - didn't like any of them. If much rather be at Star City

The Chinese restaurant at Sharkies is great though. Back in the day there used to be a window and you could see the field.

They're clubs. Lots of pensioners and gamblers.

Raiders at Mawson is the best I've been to. Younger crowd, good live entertainment. Cheap food and booze.

Wests Rosellas in Newcastle is pretty good - lots of function rooms, an onsite hotel, their own sports oval, walking distance to ausgrid.

Wyong Leagues club is OK too - the League club owns several different sites. The main one has footy fields that have juniors every weekend, 5 teams of seniors, and has hosted a NSW cup side for several years (central coast storm and central coast centurions). The other sites have an 18 hole golf course, a bowling club and a tennis club amongst other things. Whole setup is worth upwards of 100 mill and is fully owned by the footy club.

Bronco's is OK. Nothing to rave about - bit dated but I bet it was grand in it's day. Pretty cheap and reasonable quality food in the buffet.

Raiders at Mawson is excellent. I've always liked the Raiders club in Gungahlin, nice and cosy. West Belconnen has a nice view of the field.

Haven't yet made the trip to QLC, the jewel in the crown of the Raiders pokies empire.

Manly leagues club is average, maybe 5/10. They've done the place up over recent years so it looks nice but there's really not much there. Used to have good buffet breaky but I only go there now to buy tickets for the games.

Panthers is good though I haven't been there for a number of years. It's big, they have some extra stuff like aquagolf and a few places to eat. Probably 8/10.

Went to NSW Leagues club a couple of years ago as I thought it might have been a good place to watch a test match. Absolute dump of a shoebox.

Go to Souths Juniors for dinner every so often, the juniors part is ironic since it's 95% elderly people in there.

Wests Cambo, Parra, Penrith, Balmain, St George, Steelers and of course Cowboys.

Illawarra had by far the most friendly fans before a game.

But Penrith's is by far the best I guess, plenty of grey VL commodores and single mothers, I would like to know of a better utopia if it exists........

Gosford leagues is ok, maggots at lambton is better. Drinking in Newcastle anywhere is f**ked because of the ridiculous drinking restrictions... Too many merkins glass each other up this way

In the two I've been in I found them quite depressing watching people in trance like state feeding money into machines. I did like the cheep beer prices though! Certainly had a cheaper night out than you can get in perth at $12.50 a pint!

You have never been to an RSL or a workers club?

BTW you dont have to gawk at the pokie players. There are other things to do!

Actually, it is an RSL club that is causing Manly Leagues Club so much grief. The Leagues Club has spent plenty upgrading things but DY RSY is one of the best clubs going round. Great food/restaurants, plenty of entertainment (comedians, bands, etc) as well as nice bars and even an AMF at the back. Pokies are a pretty small part of the club. If more clubs were like this, they wouldn't be in so much trouble and relying so heavily on pokie revenue. Leagues clubs trying to improve should be looking at places like this as a model, it's a place that can attract people of all ages rather than catering to the 4 o'clock dinner crowd.

I have been to:
NSW
North Sydney
Manly
Easts
Souths (years ago before it closed down)
St.George
Parramatta
Penrith
Balmain
Canberra (Gungahlin & Mawson...and agree Mawson is a great club. Far from a drab leagues/RSL club)

That's one thing I noticed in Perth when I go over there for work, everything is f**king expensive, a night on the turps nearly costs you double what it normally should...........

I think a bourbon was about $8 at a pub I went to in 2000, f**k knows what it would be now in the same joint, every other time i have been back I have elected to drink beer and even that was about $9 for a schooner.............

I've only been to the Raiders club at Gungahlin and thought it was decent enough. I didn't get that depressing 'pokie den' vibe from the Raiders club that places like Ainsle (AFL club) have in spades, which is good.

Also, the schnits are fantastic and cheap :D. I'm not sure about the other Raiders clubs though.

Speaking of Leagues clubs, the cowboys had plans out 2 years ago for a new one about 3 kms away from DFS (if anyone has been up here for a game, they know how far away the current one is from the stadium, it's f**king ridiculous) but they held off after the financial crisis and losing the catering contract for DFS (cash was a bit tight) and selling the current site was going to be hard with the rennos to the mall in our CBD, the plans were pushed back a few years.

Will be interesting to see if they finally go ahead with this new club (the plans look fantastic) but seeing as though they bidding to that ugly mole in Brisbane to build a new stadium in the city which also included a new leaguesy next door to the stadium i, I doubt they would be able to afford 2 leaguesys, TVL aint that big tbh. They need to do something because the current one in the mall is too small.
