What Lyon did is NOT right

Let me begin by saying Lyon is one of my fav players.

But I do not support Lyon on his decision, if he wanted out he should have done it before preseason
not after round 1. Now the club is stuck without a replacement and with lot of salary cap tied to him.
If he had quit last season we could have kept Tonga or bought a suitable replacement.

Dont get me wrong, I respect his personal life and I understand he has issues, but it is not fair for him
to do this now without thinking about the impact its going to have on the club and team morale.

I still hope he comes back. If not thanks for the memories Jamie.

fair enough point of view, because as fans of the player and club we are all a bit in shock, but i think we have to consider that this is not a rational scenario at all. Jamie is clearly upset and has had to get out of town for a while. I don't think he can be expected to consider anyone but himself. if he has gotten jack of footy he just needs to escape for a bit.

obviously i hope he returns asap as well and wish him all the best as a human being in the future...

I'm sure he did not do it just to upset you.

He is the fourth player this year to walk out, after Hodges, Peachey and Lance Thompson.

They all came back after a few weeks, so we'll just have to wait and see.

But the other three did not want to retire, they had relationship problems.
What we have here is home sickness.

come back Jamie............... [-o<

I must say I agree with _go . I think if they feel they are getting burnt out fair enough but do not hold club at ransom. I have full sympathy with Lyon but why make club suffer. It will have a bad bearing on the club especially after thrasing they got from Dogs. I think these thing should not be allowed to go ahead.
What make me wonder is this-
This guy plays footy whcih is definetly what he wants and he gets quarter of million dollar every year- I am not sure how these people are so unhappy. I am 9-5 job emplyee, what about me.

I think Round 1 had a bearing on the decision.

if a bad result can put him off, he had ample chances to do that, sep 01, 2002, last year we got thrashed by dogs, raiders, roosters, storm etc
why did he not leave then.
last week is not a reason for him to leave, if it was we would have lost a lot of players by now.

Straw that broke the camels back. He realised that he would have to dig in again for another bad year. This kid has so much pressure on him.

I'm worried about things I've been reading about him not answering teammates phone calls and saying that if anyone tries to talk him out of it, it will just make him more want to do it.

All players have to dig in DvD. Even when winning, the pressure is on to keep it up.

I hope he gets his head clear and comes back.

If round one was, as has been described the 'straw that broke the camels back', then the question is.....do we want somebody in the club that will toss it in because its all to hard?

I'm sure there's more to it and all will be revealed.

I dont think Rnd 1 was the main reason but it may have had some input. Had Jamie have scored 3 tries and we won by 30 he may have reconsidered.

He is majorly homesick and feeling insecure. Losing on Saturday reinforced to him that RL is not all just the euphoria ride that it was since he was 15. Professional RL may not be in his heart. If that is that case he is being true to himself. Playing at the elite level is not for everyone, Jamie is a guy that is unsure that he wants this kind of future.

The post match hammering that they got would probably have been hard considering that he tried his best and still got bagged.

For God's sake show the guy a bit of compassion and stop your own selfishness - oh no my team has to go without, oh no what will we do.

Jamie obviously is struggling with stuff at the moment and if things were clear in his own head, he probably would have done something by now - HOWEVER, he must have decided to try and show some balls and not quit on the team as soon as he felt down and try to give it a go and work through whatever is bothering him....but unfortunately its got to a point where he feels it is too much at the moment and he and the club have decided its best for all if he has a break.

Forget all the, IFs and BUTs, what's happened has happened - Parra will go on - someone else will get a shot at centre, just like Jamie did a few years back.....stop whining about wanting to keep Willie Tonga, he was gone halfway through last season.

None of us know why Jamie is feeling bad, so stop speculating and just give him some support....if everyone comes down on him (and lets face it, the media reads these boards and makes up total crap from them - ie like Parra supporters turn on Jamie) then it won't help his chances of getting the urge to play again.

We all love ya Jamie - you've given all us Parra supporters alot to cheer about - take a good break and decide what's best for you.

He is a great player and deserves praise for that but it may not be enough to just be a great football player sometimes a man wants to be more. He may be thinking that he wants to decide his future and not have it linked to sport.

Some stories have linked his decision to an issue involving his partner, Ellie, so we probably haven't heard the full story. I doubt very much that it has to do with the debacle on Sat. night.

Whataver reason it is we should respect that. But one question bugs me why now. If there is some problem in his personal life why did not he take descision before season began. I know this is a hard season and we as a fan want a lot. Our passion has increase and with it expectation. The game is not a simeple game anymore. It is about career and money etc. I think the worst happend inSPORT today is money. No doubt- NRL is much better to watch nowadays becuase of talent and professionalism but what it has harmed is individual player's life. They also feel terrible loosing in such a huge margin but in that time we do not think at their side. We always think we should have won.
Please note that I love EELS inspite of Non rugby background. If you see most of the recent issues it has all to do with money. I think money is costing the game dearly. We are paying too much to the players. Another example being Dogs. I think NRL should wake up - this is the third case.

Apparently he had a discussion about retirement with Cleal 12 months ago but it seems the subject didn't come-up again until this week. I wonder if the board or coaching staff were aware of this or if it was just an off-the-cuff remark from a young kid.

i could not have said what i am thinking better myself.
Jamie is in need of support, if its true this has been brewing for a while, then he's pressed on in spite of it, and now, for once he is going to look after himself.

If i ever over hear, ((or read)) any abuse towards Jamie or his decisions, you better believe there will be blonde hell to pay!

If Jamie is questioning his decision about playing football then the last bloke I want to see in the team is Jamie. If he decides he wishes to continue and he feels he is confident enough to do so then there is no player I would rather watch in the Number 3 jersey.
