I was just flicking through last weeks big league and asked myself this question .
Now in all honesty how many of the other sides Souths not included lol would John Wilson make as a centre

Its also interesting to note he has been picked in the backrow for Balmain
COWBOYS
Hannay, Bowman .
BRONCOS
Tate,Berrigan
STORM
Bell,Macdougall
DRAGONS
Gasnier,Cooper
PANTHERS
Girdler,Lewis
KNIGHTS
Gidley,Tahu
ROOSTERS
Cross,Hodges
EAGLES
Torrens, Menzies
EELS
Langi, Vaealiki
BULLDOGS
Lolesi,Tonga
WARRIORS
Toopi,Martin
SHARKS
Vagana,Mcgoldrick
RAIDERS
Evans,Mogg.
He may force his way into the EELS or SHARKS side on current form .
I was not surprised to see him dropped for Saturdays game purely because he is not the top centre some people have raved on about .
A top centre can win you the game with sheer brilliance regardless of his inside man putting him through a hole .
And as for confidence is that the word a supporter uses if a player plays bad ?
Yeah he played bad because he is a confidence player lol

Ask this question about all our players...even the rep players....probably get the same answer.

I reckon he will end up following Kevin McGuiness and Nick BQ to Manly. I don't know how long Manly are going to run with the Menzies experiment.

I think he would get a run at Canberra and the Storm as well.

He is a good player, i think we just have depth now so the coach can pick and choose a bit who he plays. Just means we might have a bit of fierce rivalry for the centre positions which means even better results....

McGuinness is now playing for Salford City Reds in the English Super League after Salford agreeing to use his services for the remainder of the 2004 Season over in the UK, after being shown the door by Manly for reasons saying he was too small. He makes debut on Saturday Night against the London Broncos. For anyone who is interested. The Game will be on Fox Sports next friday being the 14th May at 2pm.

You people sure know how to kick a guy when he's down. EVERY player goes through a lean patch. Geez this place is so hot and cold one minute you're a champion and the next you couldn't make anyones' team. I seem to recall last year when he was our top try scorer that everyone was demanding him to be re-signed.

Your a goose mate.....

Who is kicking him?

I think it is a fair observation that he wouldn't make it into quite a few first grade sides IN THE CENTRES

I think you should re-read the question before you claim that everyone is against Wilson. As i said below i think he is a good player, aside from that no one else has commented on him.

My comment about him going to Manly was more to do with 2 of our centres from last year ending up there.

Why will you be having fun Dale?

Will John Wilson be turning out in the centres for one of the clubs we haven't mentioned?

You run the same thread about Elford and i would say the same thing. He would be lucky to get a starting centre spot at alot of the clubs, doesn't mean he is not a good player.

You guys sure like making something out of nothing.....

Hey Swampdonkey
Put yourself in Wilsons shoes. If you were off your game and dropped to PL you don't think seeing a thread titled "What other side would Wilson make" wouldn't be a kick in the guts. I won't sink to your level of personal attack but remeber this is a forum where people state their opinion. Sometimes they're different to yours.

Raiders, Sharks, Manly I think he's better than or equal to at least one of each of their centres..

I appreciate you not sinking to my level of personal attack...

You said it yourself mate, everyone has the chance to state their opinion.
Why is then that you are critical of people when they exercise their right to do so?

What other side would Wilson make is a very open kind of question. It is neither negative or positive, for all anyone about to open the article might know, it could have a list of 10 of the other NRL clubs and be praising how good John Wilson is in the centres, so to say that John Wilson my read the article title and start wanting to neck himself is a bit far fetched.

Turns out upon opening the thread that the actual question is what sides would Wilson make in the centres, the author nominated a few, i nominated a few more and accompanied my nomination with the words 'Wilson is a good player'.

You make an average point, no one is bagging Wilson as a player in general, much the same as i am sure you have views about who should play in what position, a few of us have said that he wouldn't make a number of first grade sides in the centres. That's not to say he wouldn't play in the backrow, the halves or off the bench.

Again, i think you are jumping the gun a bit mate and you should take the time to gain a full understanding of the question at hand as opposed to shooting off half cocked just because one person has aired their opinion. that you don't agree with or seemingly understand.

Come on. This is the original question:

"I was just flicking through last weeks big league and asked myself this question .

If you think that's not negative then you're the one that doesn't understand the question. I just thought we were supposed to be supporters of the team. Sure Johnny's off his game atm and he's been dropped. If he was still in the team maybe I would be asking questions but he isn't and to my way of thinking (my opinion) there's no need to bag him again. If you are genuinely being hypothetical why single him out why not compare the whole team?

Slow down buddy....You originally said if he saw the thread titled 'What other side would Wilson make' it would be a kick in the guts. I then went on to say that i thought the title was open to interpretation. I agree that the beginning of the actual post is negative, but i said that i though the title of the thread was neither negative or positive.

I am a fan of his, i think he is a good player - which i stated in my first post. I support anyone playing for the team, but i also know rugby league, as i am sure you do, which means that i am going to have an opinion on his ability.

You think that assessing John Wilson's eligability to play in other first grade sides is a bit rough, i think that if you are playing first grade rugby league your game is open to criticism.

No one is saying 'Oh gee, John Wilson is the worst player our side has ever seen and i can't believe he is in first grade.' All i am seeing is people taking a player from our side who's form has been questioned all season and offering an honest assessment as to how he compares in the centres to other clubs.

I agree that the first poster Tracietiga could have perhaps rephrased her point a little differently, but that is the only point that i see anyone being interpreted to be sticking the boot in. But i think she is more so just offering her opinion on the player, she too doesn't think he is a centre.

You opened your first post with the line 'You people sure know how to kick a guy when he's down.' To me that implies that there is more than one person sticking the boot in, if you go back at the time you made the post, i was the only other person who you could be refering to when you said 'You people' as no one else offered an assessment on Wilson. SO WHERE IN ANY OF MY POSTS AM I STICKING THE BOOT IN TO WILSON?

As mentioned by myself and a few other posters that he would make about one third of the NRL sides in the centres, i think that is a fair assessment. Last year when he was scoring more tries of Daniel Fitzhenry's kicks i would have said the same thing...I don't think he is a centre.

Now it's your turn to slow down. The only reason I'm addressing this to you is because of your response to my first post. We obviously have different opinions on how these posts could be interpreted. I think the title of this thread and the question posed are both negative when put in the context of Wilson being droped to PL this week. I also think saying he will head off to Manly is writing him off. You obviously see that as a positive career move but that's ok. My initial post was maybe a tad reactionary but it p*sses me off seeing such a negative post when he's already been dropped and I felt that anyone who didn't object to the original question was agreeing with it. If it really is a matter of position it should have been worded differently as you said. It's really the timing that I object to most.

No problem.

Comment about Manly was a bit tongue in cheek, i had just finished chatting to a mate of mine who follows Manly and i joked that everyone who drops from first grade at WT into premier league usually ends up at Manly.

As mentioned, I think Wilson is a good player, but he is up against some stiff opposition in the centres and i believe that he will be doing well to hold down a permanant position in first grade in the centres.

Not trying to stick the boot in, just calling it how i see it.

But i respect your opinion and think that you do make some valid points. As with email, you are always going to be more open for mis-interpretation when all you get are words, missing all the additions that come with having a verbal discussion.

Like calling you a goose for instance, you took it a little more seriously than i had intended it to be.
