What should our 2010 pass mark be?

Mosy people are getting excited about next year, all clubs are a chance to win the comp at this stage? Will making the 8 cut it for you to justify our new signings & coach's contract extension? Or do you expect to be final 4 or better?

With the near misses in regards to making the Top 8 of the last few years, I'd have to say Top 4 as well. Consistency and the ability to win the close ones will be key. And no f**king around with peoples natural positions for f**ks sake!

Id have to say top four as a minimum. Then when it comes to the final series, with a top 4 finish we should look to win our home final and then who knows. Maybe a preliminary final is not out of reach

16 or 17 wins and/or top 4 is the minimum for a pass imo.

Based on most past seasons, 17 wins will get you the minor premiership.

My pass mark is week 2 of the finals. We need to get ourselves back into the finals, but it can't just be sneaking into 7th or 8th then bombing out in week 1.

top 4

id accept a top 6 spot but realistically with the talent and depth we have anything less then a top 4 spot is an underachievement imo

At very least:

  • anything less than top 8- failure, 'not ifs and buts'.
  • top 8 position at start of finals- 7/8- borderline pass mark- the new team with the players signed and other players let go has been talked up as to its potential etc. anything less than 7/8 is a definite failure.
  • top 8 position at start of finals- 5/6- passable but..........
  • top 8 position at start of finals- 1/2/3/4- is the area to be aimed at with the massive recruitment and clean out that has occured. No more excuses. Home ground advantages happen with those slots (mind you- what home ground? probably SCG knowing WT management)

six or above, nothing below is acceptable and no excuses, we have heard them all before. This squad has a good mix of class and solid Fgraders and plenty of depth. They have to learn how to win the close games because their will be plenty of them.

We've somewhat addressed one of our biggest issues of the past few seasons - front-row depth - so that's a step in the right direction. The class players also remain (Marshall, Farah, Lawrence, Ellis) without losing too many of value (loss of Galea will hurt). However, we still lack a genuine halfback. Whilst Marshall can comfortably play at first receiver when we're on the attack, it's the class, experience & composure from the number 7 that's sorely missing when we're on the backfoot. For this reason, I will be happy to accept a top 8 finish. Given that we've been close the past couple of years, and we've improved - not as much as some people say, mind - anything less than the finals will be a failure. Top 4 should be goal, but top 8 is the pass-mark.

We should be looking at 6th. It's a relatively safe position (lose in the first week you can still make week 2).

14 wins should be the mark they strive to get to.

Id be happy just to make 8th position as long as we are on charge just like the end of this year, if we made the 8 we really could have made the GF i thought. My main concern is the Lote factor because they are talking about him joining mid season. So a lot will depend on the reshuffle that may happen to accomadate him. Such as Moltzen filling in at fullback then switching to 7 etc.. Things like that can take weeks to regain combinations again,,, a few weeks of loses can be the dif from being 8 or 9

We either make the Finals or Sheens gets the punt. It's as simple as that, imo.

5 years of not making the eight would be indefensible, especially with the quality of players he's had access to over that period.

I mean, it's not like he's had to make do with a lack of talent that some of the old Balmain and Magpie line-ups suffered from.

Fully agree.

I just hope the buggers there in the WT boardroom do not yield to Teflon's pressure for a contract extension early in the season before results proven. Hell, if we fall short in 2010 like 2009 ie the last game or two and Sheen's has got his extension already done WT are stuck with the goose again. We have to pay him out if WT board then say failure unacceptable. More and more I think of it- no contract extension until season finished and results proven. 9th is not good enough. 8th maybe- just depending on how the 2010 season has gone as a whole.

I'll settle for Top 6...

Shines must go if this is not achieved, but no doubt he will be resigned to another 3 year deal in March....

Everytime his contract is up for renewal, he brings Benji into the picture to blackmail the Tigers into giving his coaching contract a top up.
