Welcome Bazal. This is the only good place to be now. :D
Since it's off-season why don't you share something with us about your year-long trip?

I had a heap of money to start with luckily because I had 4 jobs at one stage in high school, and tried to concentrate on countries that at the time had a decent exchange rate with us....But in Germany I just got a temporary job at a bar (not hard there are many of them) they were offering backpackers jobs at quite a few places, because it's cheap labour for them (but the pay was still pretty decent). I didn't really stay in one place for more than a month though (except Malaysia, because I have lived there before so I stayed longer), and since Germany was in the middle of the trip it provided me a nice boost as far as money went. Also got a job as a SCUBA dive guide at Tioman Island in Malaysia for a little while, but I had to apply for a work VISA nearly a year beforehand. I've been diving since I was 6 though so they gave me the job, which was good.

Well, basically what I can tell you about my trip is.....everyone should go to a beer hall in Munich at least once in their lives :D But seriously, I basically did a relitviely cheap trip, mostly to countries where my money was worth more (except Germany, France, UK and the USA). Started with a quick week long fishing trip in Darwin, then me and three mates headed to Singapore for a week, Malaysia for 2 months. I used to live there so for the first month I stayed in Penang with old school-mates, then on to Tioman Island for the second month, which is pretty much a cheap version of a whitsundays resort. Had a job lined up there as a SCUBA dive guide, basically chaperoning new divers around the reefs, and more experienced divers down to the wrecks of 2 WW2 British battleships sunk in the area. After the it was on to Thailand, India and Sri Lanka, all great places to visit as long as you're careful, especially Thailand where they have been known to kidnap whites for the black market white slave trade in some of the seedier cities! Not a place to visit with young kids if you want to do more than Bangkok and Phuket. India was probably my favourite place, the people are amazingly friendly, cricket-mad, and the food is great (although having lived in Asia I'm more tolerant, the best idea is to get it from the Hawker places that cook it as you watch in any Asian country) Sri Lanka is a very nice country actually, especially in the highland jungle areas, and the food is just as good as in India. After Sri Lanka we did Egypt for a week (saw the pyramids etc, actually a lot less interested than people seem to think), Turkey for a little while so we could go to Gallipoli, then on to Germany, where we mostly hung around Munich for a month (quite often hungover after steins upon stein of good local beer :D ), and all got jobs at a bar to boost our funds a little. Europe is quite good actually, because you can see it all while staying in one place. There are trains that run between all of the major European cities so it's sometimes just a matter of saying "Hey, lets go to Vienna" and hopping on a train in Munich, going to Vienna for a quick look around an returning that night. Anyways, after Munich it was Marseilles for 2 weeks. France is overrated, we went into Paris for the day, and I can safely say I'm still not sure why. It's quite a dirty city, with not much to do unless you're interested in the arts. Much preferred Marseilles. While in Marseilles we headed over to Spain a few times, just to have a look around. Not a bad place actually, we probably should have planned a trip there insteadof France. But oh well. The UK was next, with an emphasis on Ireland due to my Irish heritage and love of all things Irish (even their rugby union team has a place in my jersey cdraw  ) London was ok, but the weather was shocking the whole time we were there. Ireland was even better. The Irish, in general, are friendly, and always love having a beer and a joke with a tourist. We basically stayed in Dublin, but headed down to Galway Bay and Kilkenny for a bit as well before heading back to London for a flight to the USA. We stayed with friends of my parents in Washington, which was useful as hotels for 2 weeks would've put a fair dent in our money stocks. Went to New York as well, and had a 3 day stopover in Hawaii, which was actually quite cheap (stayed with one of dads navy friends which helped), before heading to some of the Pacific Islands that aren't as often frequented by tourists as places like Tahiti, Fiji, Vanuatu etc, and so are still fairly cheap holiday options. Went to Palau, Tonga, Samoa, a couple of places I still can't spell even after going there, and explored most of the islands and oceans around the areas. After the it was off to a fishing lodge in Papua New Guinea for another fishing trip to end the tour, before heading back home via Townsville, Brisbane and Coffs Harbour......

And that, in short, was the most expensive year of my life! It was worth it though. This is just a bit of an overview so anyone after more information about anywhere we went, ask and ye shall recieve! Cheers.....

Well it was a full year after all...hehe

I'll admit, I've always been a bit long winded. Came in handy for English class at school though....
