I think it was no coincidence tha the WARL went with the WA Reds, we know we it is going to be WAR getting a franchise back in Perth with the current NRL management (or lack of).

I don’t think the NRL have any intention to put another franchise in Perth (I don’t agree with that stance for one minute). The problem is most ARL Loyalists think that News Ltd is to blame. The real problem is the NRL clubs themselves. None of them want to move past 16 clubs and if another franchise was added that would mean one the existing clubs would have to relocate or go under. All their funding is locked into for the next 5 years. They want to take the easy option and play at Homebush and accept the up front cash. I have funny feeling that if Souths wouldn’t have won their court case, the game would still be stuck at 14 teams. I hope now the Channel 9 franchise in Perth has changed ownership, that it will mean better TV coverage for WA. Channel 7 has moved to multi channelling on the digital platform and that may force the 9 Network to follow suit.

I agree. The NRL is conveniently broke when it suits them. They have $12m for anyone who wants to relocate to the Central Coast. They have cancelled this year’s Country Carnival because of the cost of Centenary Celebrations. I think the Carnival a bit of cheap way to promote the game outside the NRL areas, but it is stupid to cancel it when it also used for Junior Registration days. Tough choice for the NRL/ARL; party or re-invest in the future. I’m still mystified if they are so broke, how they can start up a National Under 20s Comp. 5 or 6 years ago they were calling out for second tier clubs like Cabramatta, Ryde/Eastwood, St Marys etc to help fund the NRL and they now have enough cash to fly 20 year olds around Australia and NZ.
Perth needs their reinstatement to the NRL to be driven by the local Rugby League people, like what happen with Paul Broughton and Michael Searle on the Gold Coast. I wonder where are all the flat earther’s now who said the Gold Coast would fail? Keep shoving in their face Perth Red,

my god, someone with intelligence on this board, people like you are few and far between.

Totally agree and in Geoff Baldwin and Bill Nosworthy we have the people with the motivation, contacts and committment to do it. The main difference is though we are in a AFL mad city with an unfriendly/ignorant media and a growing RU presence. These guys need help from the NRL, no way can they do it on their own.

On a positive note:

Reds - NRL Business Club launchedWA Reds Chairman, Geoff Baldwin, today announced the launch of the Reds – NRL Business Club which is aimed at providing networking and business opportunities to the business people of Perth and in attracting like minded business people to the WA Reds.

Reds in advanced negotiations for major naming rights sponsorThe WA Reds are in advanced negotiations with a major National company to take up the naming rights of the team in a three year deal worth around $400,000, Reds Chairman, Geoff Baldwin, announced today.

From memory Souths didn't actually win the court case. They negotiated their way back in. Correct me if I'm wrong but the NRL still has the power (as confirmed by the precedent of the win against Souths) to kick any team they want out of the competition.

Oh gee, look it’s a post from STSAE. And it is him because his post has all his trademark silly faces attached. If the NRL and News Ltd are the same animal, how long has NRL Board member Nick Politis been a News Ltd person,

Uncle Nick loves you mate, have no fear.:sarcasm:

Do NewsRL not control the board???? Not have the casting vote????

I prefer reality over propaganda.

Wouldnt a better board be say ALL the owners/CEOs/represntative of EACH of the clubs in the game???

Not a media organisation that has interest in the media, sponsorship and OWNING more than 1 franchise????

And glad to see Im sooooooo well remembered, and loved.:p

Well, Souths lost in the first instance and then appealed... On appeal:

Souths "lost" again in the sense that the Federal Court did not have the power to make an order that they be admitted to the NRL competition.

Souths, however, "won" in the sense that were able to obtain an order restraining the ARL and News Ltd from running a fourteen team competition, which was the "unlawful fetter" (the Court's words) that excluded Souths from the competition. Souths were therefore able to successfully apply for a 2002 license to field an NRL team.

No they don’t. The NRL Board has equal representation

Phil Gould/DannyWieldler propaganda?

No, I don’t think so. The clubs have too much say for my liking. The ARL should find some better directors and take more control of the game (I don’t include Nick in that)
