I want to know what he`ll say when Shannon McDonnell becomes the seasons leading try scorer ??? When he (Shannon McDonnell) breaks more tackles in one game than what Ftaz broke in 3 seasons with us, what will the response be ???

Not forgetting that wingers are never great defenders, if they were they`d more than likely be playing in the centres. But you do have to score points to win games and Shannon McDonnell certainly knows his way to the tryline !!!

in reggies yes. vicious i was as excited about macca as everyone else when he was coming throught the ranks. but mate in first grade he has probably played two decent games. in the majoritiy he hasnt even been average, he has been terrible. he simply hasnt lived up to the hype and if he wasnt a local junior would have been punted well and truely by now. he has horrible hands and has a bad case of the 'fitzys' in attack, i.e gets the ball and dances around until submitting in a tackle. i cringe every time a kick is put in in his general direction. thats not what you want from one of your back three.

That`s a fair comment and i must admit that i`ve been very disappointed in his form over the past 12 months or so, but he is young and has had his fair share of injuries, so i`m prepared to give him the benefit of the doubt and definately won`t be crucifying him until he`s playing with some decent ball players inside of him and he strings a few games together without getting injured.
He`s got genuine speed, he`s a genuine tackle breaker and a genuine match winner, i`m sticking with him and i`m surpremely confident he`ll prove my judgement correct !!!

I'm also in agreeance with this. Whilst extremely disappointed with his 1st grade appearances to date, and extremely impressed with his PL games. I believe the problems don't lie within his skills whatsoever. The problem lies within where he has had his career fast-tracked by the powers above that have caused this picture to be painted. This fast tracking of his career has failed miserably simply because he was not ready for 1st grade 2 years ago. His size was the proof for starters, and that has hindered his progress because of his horrendous runs with injuries for the past 2 years in which he has continued to play injured. He has had a good lay up now and has bulked up to around the 85+kgs mark, and i believe he will go close to pushing for a 1st grade spot come season 2008.

It will initially be a battle between Nick Youngquest and Shannon McDonnell for one wing spot. I`m happy with the signing of Youngquest, he seems to be a late developing, improving type of player who in my opinion is well up to first grade, but i maintain that if Shannon Mac stays injury free and is playing with confidence, he is a far more dangerous attacking player who will demand a first grade spot. I`e got no doubt the plan is for Chris Lawrence to partner Dean Collis in the centres, but with both Benji and Matt Head ceratin to be targeted in defence, we`ll need Lawrence to have made a big improvement on his one on one defence over the off season to combat that, otherwise we`ll need to look at a better defensive option for a centre spot, perhaps Danny Galea ??? This would obviously mean that Lawrence would have to revert back to the wing.
The real big question is will we have any youngsters emerge as genuine stars, just as Chris Lawrence did last season ???

Collis and Lawrence both need to become extremely more dependable and effective in defence.

All bullsh*t aside, we need to start working entirely on defence. This side knows how to score points, they need to learn how to defend.

Vish your bigging up of junior burger leads me to suspect you are either junior himself, ronald or a relative of him. The bloke is an utter f**king spastic and I will give you this stat. The team has won 21 from 48 since the GF. The team has won 3/22 with junior burger in the side, one of which was in the 05 season (penrith rd 26). Thus our record post 05 with Junior burger is 3 from 21 (14% odd). Without him it is 18 from 27 (67%). That is absolutely glaring. The block is a spastic. A ball dropping, fumbling, lightweight, speedbump of a spastic at that and we all know why he's there. In all his 22 games he has had 2 decent games (both of which we lost in any case)

A stat is a stat, in reality it means nothing. If he was directly to blame for most of the losses when he was in the side then fair enough, but he really only contributed to 4-5 of those losses, he was far and away our best player against the Panthers in `2006 and we still lost the game.
I want us to win each and every game as much as anyone else, but i don`t understand the bagging of a bloke just on stats ???
I don`t agree that he`s bad under the high ball, his lack of height does make it hard for him, but when he gets a fair crack at it he`s well above average under the high ball, don`t worry about that. I`m not sure what you can relate his slipping over to, but that is something that certainly needs to be rectified ASAP. I certainly don`t agree that he submits in tackles, he has dropped a few balls too many when returning the ball, but that has mainly been because he does run the ball back quite strongly for a little man, he attacks the space between two defenders, hence the reason he makes quite a few tackle and line breaks. Defence is a big issue that is holding him back, it`s no excuse being small, to be a first grader you have to put your body on the line in defence no matter how small you are.
No doubt he`s got his faults and he certainly went backwards in way of form in season `2007, but the bottom line is that someone who can regularly break the defensive line doesn`t grow on trees, if he can show a bit more heart in defence and play confidently in attack, he`ll be a consistent match winner for us, mark my words !!!

And while i`m at it, i`ll give you another stat, Paul Whatuira was nothing but a passenger and hinderence for us over the past 2 seasons, yet you wanted him retained on money that only genuine rep players demand ??? Not only was he a passenger for us, but he was also a hinderence for the worst NZ side in their history, hence the reason he shouldn`t have been chosen in the first place and will never ever be chosen again. I agree with some things you say, but if you want to go around bagging people, i`d hope you have better judgement than to openly state that you`d have paid over $250,000 per season for a bloke who hadn`t performed for 2 seasons !!!

mulli, its pretty ridiculous to claim a winger is the cause of games being lost.

Whatuira was sh*t ever since we won the GF.

8 of the losses in 06 that mcdonnell was in were by more than 12 points. I think thats an indication of poor defence all across the park.

2 more losses were against a Canberra side we should have beaten
another loss was against a poorly performing Penrith.

so 11 of those games, just on their own were due to the team as a whole, playing like sh*t.

When the wheels feel off badly last year, it all started in the forwards and spread through the whole team. Now I cant see whats alot different about our forwards come 2008. Okay Head might be able to direct them around the park better than 2007 and his kicking game will at least make teams ruck the ball out from their own danger zone but beside payne their the same forwards. The way souths slaughtered them in the forwards, will be the way the other 15 teams will be going at them all year. Now Junior burger will not make to much difference weather he is in the team or not, its all about the forwards and they are rated the cream puff pack of the comp
