You keep saying this like it's a good thing. We just scrapped into the 8 on the back of barely beating bottom 8 teams and even those performances weren't very good. There was no attacking structure and our defence has always been suspect.

We also beat hardly anyone of note in 2016 and yet people for some reason were tipping us to win the comp this year. The only thing last year is that we were playing better footy and thrashing lower sides, whereas this year we've looked clunky in beating the lower sides that we have.

Every game in the NRL is worth the same, so every team is "of note". You've gotta beat them to get the points. The bottom 5 before this round had won 34 games between them. Not one of them was against the Panthers. That is why we made the 8. If we'd not lost to the 6th last placed team, we'd have been playing for a top 4 spot last night.

It's not beating the top sides that gets you into the finals when 8 out of 16 make it, but not losing against the bottom sides. Once there, that is when you have to beat the top sides.

Only one of those games was against a team completely out of the running. The Tigers match at Penrith. Even the Knights were still in the running when we played them because it was so early in the year. A LOT of teams played us needing the win to stay alive and mostly they didn't get it, until the last 2 games at least. They missed the 8 to a large degree because we beat them. Certainly the Raiders (who were being called all sorts of things in the lead up to the Bruce match), but also the Bulldogs and Titans (who we played on the back of 3 straight wins), these teams fell apart afterwards once they couldn't realistically make it. We've played nothing really but teams on their last chance for the past 3 months.

If we had played well I would share your opinions but unlike last year our wins were because our opposition was worse than us, not that we were better if you take my meaning.

@TheFrog I think pantherz sentiment is that you want to get a big scalp to prove yourself as a contender, but in fairness the only team to do that this year is Cronulla over the Storm at full strength in Round 6.

My point is that it doesn't matter whether that happens before the finals or during them, so long as you make it. Anyway we haven't even played a "big scalp" in about 4 months. The Broncos in round 9 would have been about the last of them. They were all sides desperate to win because they were in danger of missing the finals, sides like us basically. And really, we're not a contender, are we?

Lost him because of the disgusting act of going to donkey league
They weren't making Kick Manly Out noises or your mob would've done it too. Freddy was bribed with the Australian captaincy. He couldn't have cared less about the war. Fittler was far too stupid to understand the issues involved and people want to make him NSW coach.

Anyone read the story in The Australian about Panthers selling land to Lou Z, worth $15m, for only $3m. Apparently after the journo inquired about Gould & Lou being on a panthers charity board together they both resigned three days later. The whole thing sounded rather odd. Not quite sure what the journo was suggesting, but I don't think it will be the last we hear of it.
