Well last night certainly leads us right back to this question!!
What have we learnt from this year?
Firstly, we had more 1/2, 5/8 combinations this year than I have had seasons watching the Sharks go nowhere ( and I am an old bastard!). If you don't have a combination that is able to link then you have real problems.
Second, we are short a dominant prop. When Stevo goes off we have little left and it shows ( I am not even going to start on the poor interchange itself).
Third, Discipline is pathetic at times and I put that down to frustration caused by the 1st and 2nd points.
Fourth, Defence - we have played a couple of turnstiles and if the ball runners had put a $1 in as they passed we could afford the new prop. I don't know if the defence problems are just technique, I get the feeling it also relates to patterns.
Fifth, Plan - do we ever have a plan when we go in to a game? A Kicking Plan, A defensive plan, a set play plan?
In the game against the Storm in Melbourne our defence was fragile at times but I thought it was among our best games of the year and at a time when we could have started building towards something, then the wheels fell off again.
A lot of work to be done in the off season.
