I expect it will take at least half the season for him to adjust to the demands of NRL football. I don't expect him to come in and dominate right away, i reckon come the back end of the season he will be hitting his straps in all areas.

This is the Tomkins thread.

My expectations:
-Perform consistently week in, week out.
-Bring professionalism to our club through this consistency and in a ruthless attitude.
-Piss opposition teams off by milking penalties and generally being an over-competitive nuisance.
-Rip the shit out of any Warriors player who f**ks up, rather than offering smiles and cuddles.
-Score a lot of tries.
-Create space for our strike weapons.

We need this, but with the way the boys are mollycoddled nowadays it could cause rifts and a few of them wanting to jump ship.

Which might not be a bad thing in fact.

Don't want an annoying player though, we see how much love Billy Slater gets for being exactly that.

Billy's not that bad, if he acts like Ennis then there is a problem. Doubt he will, not many that are that bad.

In all my time playing sport I've never felt that teammates bagging each other has ever had a positive impact. I guess everyone is wired differently though. Personally I don't think either rarking up or molly-coddling makes one iota of difference to whether a bloke drops a particular pass or not.

Yup... Different strokes for different folks.

That's why Wayne Bennet is so good... He recognises which players need the whip or the carrot.

That sounds like a captain's job description mate ;-)

Tomkins is a very good player and i can't wait to see him play next season. He will outperform Slater imo. Slater hasn't been at his best this season.

Yeah but who really cares if opposition fans like or dislike Tomkins?

I care.

At least whatever the Warriors are, we have a good rep in the NRL for sportsmanship and likeable players and fans. It would be bitter-sweet to be in a position to own all the silverware but be universally hated. I'm thinking the Australian Cricket team of the 00s.

I just don't see how "milking penalties and generally being an over-competitive nuisance" should be an expectation. I'd much rather Tomkins worry about his own game and his own team than trying to get under the oppositions skin.

And yes I like the idea that our team generally doesn't have tossers and are looked upon in a positive light. Most NRL fans are at least neutral about us and are happy to cheer us on if their team is down, for example in the 2011 finals we had huge support over the Tigers and Manly.

Being an annoying idiot shouldn't be on any players to-do list.
