Brown was patient with purchases and went hard for young talent. If I was club manager id buy into Browns plan. If Cleary come up to me and said I want to pay 600k+ for Big ben, Packer,Reynolds and then go for Lolohea and Thompson id want to know the long term plan.

I see guys who will make you better but nothing that will give long term hope.

Ponga, Watson are potential long term stars along with Pierce I see far better purchases. I see 3 guys you can build a team around rather then just trying to build a bits and piece squad like the Tigers have done.

Unless of course people would rather we had kept Aioloi, Eisenhuth, Matterson and Tyrell Fuimiamona and built our club around these local juniors.

You say we need to be patient and think long term but we had half the clubs fan base calling for BA's head after 6 losses. Imagine the shit storm if we had a 1 win season like the knights 2016

Browns good but where does he rate compared to other 13s? Not top 5. Middle of pack and same goes for Gutherson.

Of course Pierce and Watson are only middle of pack ast best too. So YES we can build a team around.

They play very differently. One is a goal kicker and a good defender. The other is a good playmaker. Brooks is also left footer. They would be a great halves pairing.

2 players for about 1.5million sounds good until you realize we probably need 4 new good players.

Not true at all. We lost one top 17 player from last year. If we signed (for example) Oates (to play wing) and Klemmer it would revolutionise our side. Everyone else would be able to just do their job and would all look better.

2 middle forwards, say Paulo and klemmer - that would go close to 1.5.

We already have four middle forwards, plus Ma'u, Moeroa and Takairangi contracted for 2019. They are all first graders. We just need someone to take the big runs.

We also need a good hooker (as you have released Pritchard and king) and that won’t come cheap.

We can get away with not blowing the budget on a top hooker. McInnes, Wallace and Brailey are all sitting in the top five at the moment. None of them are stars on big money. It's a team game. And there's no top hookers available anyway. Mahoney and Pritchard might get the job done. A club like us needs to take the risk and find out. I doubt it would cost much to keep Pritchard. Offer him Dave Gower's money.

And we are already short of good wingers. You are releasing Hayne and Auvaa. We will need a good one (maybe 2) Where are you going to find a good winger with little money to spend on them? French is a shit winger.

But that's all. Only Brown's upgrade would be significant. Let's say they're on a combined $500k extra next year. Kenny Edwards' contract would cover at least half of that.

I would add Alvaro and Moeroa to that list, they may never play rep footy but they will always be quality NRL players. Additionally they are fairly young for forwards and have not yet peaked!
