The Front Row Forums launched in May 2003, I know cuz I was one of the first members to join.

Well, I don't know about Buzz, but starting from Willow downwards, you'll see the original dates of the founding fathers, including myself at number 20:

Yes it's hard to believe, but a obscure poster like me, with my humble contributions to the forum (although it's worth mentioning one forum 7s premiership, btw), has been around longer than the likes of Twizzle, Timmah, and Raider_69, with their girthy almost phallic-like post counts.

May 2003, however LWOS goes back before then. MattO broke away and formed rleague which was a few years before this forum came about. Out of coincidence this place started at the same time Ray Hadley threatened legal action against MattO which caused him to shut down his forum for a while which resulted in his traffic heading over here

Pretty sure the Ray Hadley thing came after May 2003. I think the main reason most people moved from rleague to here was because the Forum 7's moved here. LU has always been the best imo ... wow ive been here 6 years now. I'm an old bugger

I also joined in May 2003. There was hardly anyone here. Rleague went down in August (I think) 2003 at which point this site grew massively pretty much overnight.

Not true, on a number of levels.

A brief history with anecdotes

In 2000, WORL forums (on NineMsn) started and was the forerunner of rleague forums ('Grandstand').

In 2001, LWOS forums (also on NineMsn) started and was the forerunner of LU forums ('The Front Row').

LWOS was actually a breakaway from WORL - a move away from what we saw as the dictatorial ways of moderating.

But as much there was a lot blood spilt, the fact remains that WORL and LWOS had a lot in common, and a lot of frendships were formed.

For example, Meltiger was one of the worst bloody moderators I've ever come across. But he is regular constributor now on LU, and I count him as a valued member and a mate.

More than few members still posting today on LU first met each other on both forums way back in 2000-2001.

In 2002, LeagueUnlimited-Online.com and SportsUnlimited started with news and live updates. 2002 is probably the best 'birth year'.

By 2002-2003, WORL was essentially abandoned by rleague - WORL went out on it's own as a Dragons forum. It is quite understandable why rleague decided to go to another format.

In 2003, these LU forums kicked off, primarily to get away from the NineMsn forum format which had its limitations, and we wanted control over our server needs. Also in 2003, we were able to drop the 'online' add-on and just have 'LeagueUnlimited.com'.

The LU forums were well underway and growing at rate of knots when rleague decided to shut down their forums. They have their own reasons, but it has less to do with Hadley and more to do with someone just wanting a break.

On a final note regarding the origins on NineMsn: In 2009, just before NineMsn shut down their forums, we did our best to save as many old threads as possible. Coby burnt the midnight oil to make it happen.
The LWOS threads and post-matto WORL threads are actually here in LU. Saved before they were wiped. Can't go through every old post so some things are bit out of sorts, and this might explain why you keep seeing '1970'.

crap, 3 months after The Front Row forums kicked off, there was more people viewing/posting in our NRL forum than the whole rleague board.

Once people got wind of an alternative to Matt O's dictatorial way of running a forum, they were here in droves.

The success that speaks loadest is the fact they are still here.

Still cuts a few people pretty deep though, eh Manu ? ;-)

Well I saw the growth figures. I have been watching it more than yourself, and for much longer.

I appreciate that a lot of the social bar regulars felt abandoned and were upset when rleague shut down. You had trouble accepting change and were 'forced' to post here. For some, consistently bagging out on LU seemed to be the only thing they had left.

Get over it MV, water under the bridge now.

Why would it cut me deep?

I don't care if the forum I'm posting at is called "rleague" or "leagueunlimited". I don't care if MattO runs it or Willow.

All I know is that I've been at LU forums since the start, but they only became worth visiting when all of the rleague people came here during rleague's closure.

Willow, even I'm past playing the rleague loyalist now. I don't even know MattO ffs. I posted at rleague for one year and I've been here for over 6. Sh*t, I can hardly even remember what rleague was like!

I'm simply saying, I don't know how you can deny what happened. Rleague closed down shortly after these forums opened, hence all the rleague people came here as it was the next best alternative.

Indeed.

Most of us have moved on. I know I have.

But there are still some hanging onto to old anger. Why is that Manu?
