For too long I have put up with the tired old, hyper negative commentary provide by the likes of Andy Harper, Robbie Slater, Mike Cockerill, et al.
Domestic football in the form of the A-League isn't top class by any means but these guys nitpick as if it is supposed to be of the standard of European leagues. It gets to the point where you turn the volume off to avoid the earth shattering statements (e.g. "Like taking baby from a candy" - Andy Harper) and inane discussion of "He should have buried that" after every shooting opportunity.
Only recently have we seen Paul Trimboli and Kimon Taliadoros getting some airtime but these guys aren't exactly fresh talent and they were retired years before the old NSL was brought to a close.
My question is....where are the younger, budding commentators? Where are the guys who have only recently retired and not those who have hung up the boots 6-10 years ago (e.g. Nick Meredith)?
I'm sure that there are some knowledgable former players who can contribute something worthwhile and relevant considering the level of talent in the A-League. Where is Stan Lazaridis, Paul Agostino, etc?
My only hope is that FOX Sports and SBS starts bringing in new talent to comment on the domestic league and moves away from using the same guys who have been around since the days of the NSL (Harper, Slater), who are "famous" their own minds for playing a handful of games with overseas teams (Slater, Foster) and who think that being negative is "intelligent" commentary.
