actually he did it to cover Lincoln Withers, since playing along side Todd Carney has has played a much more traditional 5/8th role

point taken phillips, but barrett, IMO, is more capable of winning a comp as a star 5/8 (the 5/8 being alot better than their halfback) than thurston.

If you are going to win a comp you'd play Lockyer at fullback but that might be just me - he is a good five eighth and a great fullback. Thurston can be targetted in defence and made less effective. Barrett needs to run the ball more but I'd probably put him at number one at this stage.

Benji is a fantastic individual player who can create opportunities and will only get better with time.

Too hard to rate who is a better five eight in the competition as it stands now as they all play different roles for their teams. Ten years ago or more 5/8's were 5/8's but the role is now as varied as the players that wear the 6 jersey.

Those inside passes he gives are telegraphed to Moscow....

Bunji,Lockyer,Anasta are streets ahead of Barrett IMO.

do a poll if you like ...many would choose barrett or Lockyer ahead of thurston at 5/8 as a player to lead their team to a GF.
It was a comment i made to reply to The Coach who would prefer the eels have thurston and marshall ahead of barrett and lockyer as the eels 5/8.

I rate him definately behind Lockyer and Barrett. I am still unconvinced that it has been Marshall dominating this year, it has been Prince. To get yourself into the top 1-2 you have to "dominate" the game. I don't feel Benji has done that yet. He is good but he is probally 5th at best.
