Where does Benji Marshall Rank as NRL'S 5/8's?

Marshall = average passing, average creativity, average passing game,

I'd sure like to see him throw a few more of those average, no look, left to right, spiral, cut-out, hit_the_winger_on_the_chest passes.

Dykes is sh*te now. In 2001 who was his halfback?

Who made him look good?

Dykes is far from sh*t now... Marshall would only dream of the sort of kicking, creativity, passing, organisational skills, leadership, and defence that Dykes offers...

In fact, in terms of playing styles, Dykes is the closest to Lockyer in the NRL...

Campbell was his halfback in 2001... What does that prove? Answer = nothing... as we had a far stronger team back then...

there is plenty of improvement left in benjis game, he has the running game sorted but his passing game is abit inconsistant. He can throw a beautiful no look cut out ball but then he'll throw some pretty ordinary hospitals and also his kicking game isnt great.

But he is only young and there is plenty of time for him to improve in these areas

The pass was a one off... he gambled and it payed off... full marks for confidence...

What complete rubbish

I could of sworn Marshall tore shreads off Cronulla two weeks ago and Dykes well, cant remember any no look passes, cut out passes, line breaks, steps, tries.

What sort of leadership are you talking about??, the way the sharks are going i wouldnt be talking about leadership..

Dykes next to Lockyer...

It hasn't been going too well lately has it?

46 - 6 ring a bell?

That is insulting Darren Lockyer.

It proves that you're biased.

He left and went to Parramatta where he was, how can I say this objectively, bloody awful.

Preston Cambell obviously made him look good in the same vein as Scott Prince makes Benji Marshall look good.

Except that Dykes has 10% of the talent that Benji possesses.

Why don't you start a thread in the Sharks forum asking if they'd swap Dykes for Marshall?

Well, you are pretty stupid and using emoticons like you do just strengthens that thought.

I'm not denying he played well in case you haven't noticed...

And how can anybody expect to see a player perform at peak ability every week of the competition... The two sides met in the middle of a lean period for the Sharks, and a bright big purple patch for the Tigers... and the result proved likewise...

Every club has a rough patch... and fortunately for us Sharks fans we seem to have turned the corner a bit last week...

And Dykes' idea of being creative is what?

Not getting the ball to Vagana?

In case you haven't noticed... we turned it around with a convincing 40-16 win last week...

In the 3 years he was at Parra the whole team was "bloody awful", he was also injured 90% of the time, didn't enjoy the surroundings, as well as the coach... so you cannot possibly form an opinion on Dykes, whilst he was there...

Just face it... If Marshall was a Sharks he would be an outside back, just like he would be if he were at Brisbane, St George, Bulldogs, Storm, Cowboys etc.

I don't recall Benji playing for Melbourne on the weekend.

Irrelevant in this debate.

This weekend you may be back to sh*te.

Yes I can, he was bloody awful.

Ask their supporters if they'd like Marshall in their team.

He plays for the Wests Tigers, just in case that fact escaped you.

People dissing Benji's "passing" and "organisation" are a little ignorant. Maybe he isn't an "organiser" (whatever the hell that means) in the conventional sense, but he has great vision, creativity and accuracy in his passing game. Infact, I reckon he is one of the best ball-playing stand-offs going as well as having the best running game.

Benji is very good, freakish player. There certainly is an abundance of talented 5/8's at the moment, so I'll again give a young 20-year old from my club a plug....

John Sutton can run at the line, is strong, can stand up in a tackle and offload one-handed ala SBW, has the 'hop-skip' sidestep that all the young blokes seem to have, can throw a nice long or short ball both left and right, can kick (albeit this is 1 part of his game that needs work, but has a better kicking game than Benji), is a very solid defender... oh and he can goal-kick. Like Benji he too can create something from nothing. Oh and he's only played 25 games, the first 6 or so of these at centre. Oh and he's dominated Braith Anasta TWICE this year.

This kid is good.

I rate Sutton. Don't think he's a 5/8, but that's just my opinion. I think he'll finish up at lock. Definate star of the future though.

It depends on where they want to use Beau Champion. If he plays FB then Sutton will stay at 6. But I think Champion is a better 5/8 so:

6. Champion
7. Moran
13. Sutton

...is a scrumbase to build on for the future.

He was also Dally M 5/8th in 2001...

Yeah lets rate players on how they performed 4 years ago.

BTW Daniel Wagon is clearly the best lock in the game, much better then Kennedy, Carol, Harrison, Timmins etc

Dykes is a proven class player... anyone who rates him by his form @ Parra is just ignorant...

True, just like Owen Craigie is a class act. He had a great 97/98 and anybody who rates him by his stints at Wests/Souths/Widnes are just ignorant. He is up there with Lockyer and Barrett.
