Where is the push for a 2nd Brisbane team?

Danger of that though is that you may alienate and end up with a very small supporter base to draw from. A regional name would hopefully make more people feel included by the club. Maybe keep the tag name and change the suburb name to a regional ie Sunshine Coast Dolphins or North Brisbane Magpies as examples

I would love to see a Queensland Cup side step up to the plate and put its hand up to be included in the NRL. And if they were to gain admittance I would love to see them keep their name. For example Ipswich Jets, Redcliffe Dolphins or Souths Logan Magpies (Wests fans might not be happy but this club is one of the oldest in QLD). Also this way the club would not be entirley 'new' it would already have its own identity and culture and a small following.

It'd be nice to see a traditional team with roots in the BRL running around in the NRL but I can't see it happening.

Look at the other three QLD teams, all totally new clubs built with zero ties to the local clubs. They all followed the plan of an American-styled club franchise to the letter and are reaping the rewards. I'd expect the 4th NRL team in Queensland to follow the same pattern.

It's not so much the fans I think they would come to most games involving Qlders. But more so much The Broncos have the corporate backing 2 tthemselves with the A-League and AFL coming to the GC they may get wat's left.

So just base the side just out of Brisbane. They can just use Suncorp for big games still. Sunshine Coast or Ipswich as examples new sponsors etc. Not to far if a fan wants to travel to the game

Why the f**k would you want a team in Ipswich?
Target an area that would struggle to get crowds of 8000, target people who cant even afford a toothbrush.

Don't need a toothbrush when you haven't got teeth. Still, it never deterred the Broncos ;-)

cutie. U wouldn't call it Ipswich or Toowomba or wherever just base the Training and Admin offices there. Call it Southern QLD or something It could still play out of Suncorp. I would travel up to 2 hours to watch games. people in NQ travel 4 hours every game just ask them

It just wouldn't be limited to Brisbane sponsors. It's more of on area and it's untapped ATM

Exactly. People tend to assume that just because the Broncos are there and they are successful that every area in Brisbane is dominated by them. There is so much untapped potential yet in the area that a second team would help fulfill. A team based in the south, west or north should still play out of suncorp, there is no reason why they would not.

Bloody oath. If the Rabbitohs and the Tigers can play out of ANZ which is no where near their geographical area then surely a 4th Qld team based in Ipswich, Redcliffe or Logan can play out of Suncorp.

BTW I dont think an elevated QLD Cup side would work either. A fresh start is needed if we want to maximise a new supporter base.

Any new S E QLD team must not have Brisbane in their name. That belongs to the Broncos.
Maybe Ipswich or Sunshine Coast. They could draw some of their support from outer Brisbane.

I wouldn't mind the name South Queensland. Its been used before but i thout it was a good name. But I still don't see what the problem is including Brisbane in the name. The Broncos are a club. They are not the city. It happens in sports all over the world.

LA Clippers and LA Lakers

Manchester City and Manchester United

New York Giants and New York Jets

Adelaide and Port Adelaide

Sydney Roosters and South Sydney

I wouldn't mind a West Brisbane or North Brisbane.

Could Brisbane Sustain a 2nd Team?

Yes they could. The Brisbane population is booming and Rugby League has been brought back to the fore-front thanks to the Maroons success in the past three Origin series and the emergence of the Gold Coast Titans who have been adopted by those who dislike the Broncos here in Brisbane.

Like anything though it really depends on who's in charge and what they can offer to the fans. They have to find an alternative measure to the Broncos cold but professional approach and the Titans fun-loving, easy going approach.

How Soon?

It could work as soon as 2012 realistically but I wouldn't want to see another Brisbane team for at least another decade for a variety of reasons.

I believe the NRL has to consider expansion rather than capitilisation.

You wouldn't be jeoperdising the Gold Coast Titans support.

Brisbane will have a bigger population.

Big Pete Im not doubting Brisbane merits fan wise. the reason I said play out of Suncorp still. 1 thing Brisbane can do is fill it. The problem I see with it is the corporate side of things.

for 20 odd years the Broncos have had a monoply on Brisbane and been successful. So as a sponsor would be a good return for your money. You have household names in the Broncos the new team may not. So why switch teams?

Broncos aside. QLD Reds, Lions, Titans, NEW A League and NEW AFL team coming in. Will the sponsorship dollar spread to another team? Which is why you don't have Brisbane in the name.

I don't think Brisbane needs another team yet. The Crushers were just a poor man's Broncos. Redcliffe/Sunshine Coast maybe when the population is big enough. Or Ipswich when pop is big. But no one from Brisbane is going to travel to Ipswich or Redcliffe to see them play. Can't make a road trip out of it like with the Gold Coast. Maybe SS Coast. Same with people from Ipswich or Redcliffe travelling to Suncorp. Of course some would but it's too much trouble. Logan's in the middle of Gold Coast and Brisbane so forget about that.
