guys, i failed to post this before because i was hoping it would not happen this year but when ever the eels play on my birthday its a guaranteed loss, happens ever year so far its a curse i have ...

hopefully next week we bounce back from it which happens most of the time, remember the broncos game in 05, 40 something nil at half time then next week we go to melbourne and win so hopefully it happens this year ....

it was always going to be bad, and it always happens on my bday ...

This is exactly the point I was going to bring up.

In 2005 the broncos put 50 on us but we ended up being minor premiers. We will either bounce back or not. If we don't, it will be a long, cruelling, paiinful season (again), but I prefer to believe it will be a season of promise, watching the new breed start to find their feet. I think the two debutants today and Ryan Morgan are all very promising.

We have some bright spots to look forward to..:D

we've got the wrong blend of players on the field.

As I have said all last year, Hayne to 6. Hayne has to study and study and study the way Benji plays and do something similar. Play what's in front of him and look for weaknesses. Drift across field and when he picks a weak defender pass it to someone running the angle.

We are so mechanical and it is so obvious. Mortz, Hayne, Robbo are all so mechanical.

Hayne simply throws his cutout passes I reckon 8/10 times. His kick returns are useless. He is still jogging back. I'd rather Darius boyd and run straight and hard and get the defense on the backfoot.

Atkins looks good for mine and I would play him at 1. I think he was there before.

1. Atkins 2. Burt 3. Reddy 4. Loko 5. Walker 6. Hayne 7. Robson (until Humble is fit)

The pack is also used incorrectly. I still don't get the love for Lasalo. No desparation. Loko would make a better wide runner than loko. The proctor guy is someone who we need. Lasalo is too slow for mine.

Fui has to start. We are not getting on the front foot at all.

I wanted mitchell to be 9, but after today's game, he is not ready. So my first choice half (McGuire) has to stay at 9.

13. Benny - just for defense
12. Rogers
11. Hindy
10. Mannah
9. McGuire
8. Fui

14. Mitchell
15. Webb
16. Shackleton
17. Horo

In order:

Cronk, Williams, Widdop, Maloney, Wallace, Ben Roberts, Brett Seymour, Tim Smith, Sezer/Sejka. (I must admit that I have not seen the last 2 play.)

If any of those were not possible I would put Hayne at 6.

Sutton and Sandow

Rogers and Ben Smith are garbage. Give me Rory Brien any day.

Bit hard on Rogers - 2nd NRL game and he didn't get much time on the field. He has potential, just needs some time before we know if he will be a regular NRL start. Also NRL forwards take a good 50 games or so to really get that good expereince that is required to be a good player.

Hayne is not a half...why is this not painfully obvious to anyone else?

what does he do well at fullback?

Chime into the attack and throw long passes like a 5/8th?

Or sniffing around the rucks supporting his forwards? Or is he too busy organizing his wide men for the next play?

His kick returns are awesome too. Jogs back, gets tackled.

He tackles when opposition are in our 10 and stays there as second marker? wtf?

Watch Billy, he heads back watching where the playmakers are and anticipates where the dangerous play will be.

So if we are buying new halves, who do we buy? Who is available?I remember a friend of mine talking with Daniel Anderson at the end of last year and trying to figure out who we should get for the halves and the conclusion both of them came to was that the cupboard is bare for this year and for 2012. The first available half is off contract in 2013.

It would shock me if the halves for the remainder of this season is not Mortimer and Robson

It would shock me even more if our havles for 2012 are not Mortimer and Robson.....

His great strength in attack is summing up a situation and chiming in, often individually. He loses that instantly in that halves. He'd have to put all his energy into playmaking, and he's not a playmaker nor is he an organiser. He's an impact, attacking fullback who does a brilliant job of popping up when he's needed. He's also going to lose a lot in attack by being targetted in the front line of defence. You're weakening his strengths and playing to a weaker side of his game by putting him at 6, it's as simple as that.

I just think that Hayne could play like a Fittler or play like a Benji. He has both set of skills in him.

He is playmaking like a 6 now in the fittler mould but doesn't run enough for mine.

He can also play the benji role if you ask me

what about the rest of his fullback roles?

Lots of 5/8ths sums up a situation and chimes in.

He's neglecting them because he's forced to act as something he isn't. IE a playmaker!

Notice that the form slump he is in corresponds to the extra work he has to do in attack thanks to our useless halves? Or that his Dally M run coincided with pretty much the last time our halves did anything? You'd have to think that indicates something, wouldn't you?

totally agree.

So we are in a lose lose situation.

I would have him at 1 if we had a decent halfback who could put him in holes etc.

But we don't and I think has the talent to be more than what he is now.

I would like to get Darren Lockyer's or Wayne Bennett's view on this considering they changed Lockyer from a great 1 to a great 6.

Benji has the luxury of having Farah in the side, plus a coach who coaches / encourages ad lib football
