What a BS article "developed most NRL players from the Under 20s"...

The Roosters just poach promising players from all grades. Junior districts of Roosters players mentioned:

Roger Tuivasa-Sheck (NZ),
Joey Leilua (St George),
Mose Masoe (NZ),
Tom Symonds (Roosters)
Dylan Napa (Brisbane)
Antonio Winterstein (Brisbane)

They should do a list of which junior rugby league districts have developed the most current NRL players.

These can be misleading. Take many for example. Why would they have a high number when you consider that for roughly the last decade they have had a relatively unchanged side. You've had the Stewart brothers, Lyon, Matai, Balin, Wolfman, Watmough, Kite, Foran, DCE etc in the side. It's only recently they have had to look to replace and promote.

The way I see it, every team scouts everywhere, players chop and change in the lower grades depending alot on where is best for them opportunity, coaching, playing position wise etc. So who really cares where someone started. I only lol@dogs in this regard because of the "bred not bought" shit they have going.

Where a player is born and grows up is completely irrelevant to NRL development.

Jnr development U18 shouldn't be the job of nrl clubs, it should be the job of the state bodies funded properly by the Arlc and leagues clubs were available. At 18 the NRL club steps in recruiting the best kids from anywhere in the world to mould them into professionals over the next 3 years. I'd make it U21's comp attached to clubs.

I had a bet on here with someone who said Tautau Moga would be better than Edrick Lee. I was right, he was wrong. I forget who it was.

You would need to wait at least another 2 seasons before you could make that call.

Moga looked promising this year before his injury.

Remember last year when people said Papali was streaks ahead of Taumolo and had surpassed him in every facet?

It'd be interesting (or extremely nerdy) if someone could make up an 'best of nyc' team for every nrl team.
Just a quick souths one from the top of my head

2. Roberts
3. Walker
4. Takaraingi
5. Mansour
6. Keary

I was surprised how hard this was...I'm missing someone obvious right? What was noticeable was the number of similar-level players there were- lots of guys who were fringe NRL level but not stand outs

This is a very good point. Kite, Matai, Watmough, the Stewarts, Lyon and King were all playing first grade for Manly since NYC came into existence. None have needed to be replaced until recently. But as the article says, Manly use their NYC (and NSW Cup side for that matter) differently to other clubs. They put little focus into achieving success in lower grades as long as they get a trickle of talent from the lower grades to first grade. It's a system that has worked pretty well and kept Manly competitive and successful for a long time.

Nyc began in 2008.
Guys like hayne, gallen, Lyon where already australian players by then. I meant a team purely of players who've played in the NYC for parramatta

The question was asked who would be in the 'best of' team for players who have played in the NYC for that club.
If it was asked which team has the best junior system then yea, but I asked who would be in the best team purely out of players that have played in the NYC for that club

Bulldogs have a pretty good side except for the wingers (unless there are players I can't think of). Chucked Mbye at centre to fit him, Reynolds and Sezer all in. Cheated a bit with Tyrone Phillips too because he only played a few games for the Bulldogs in under 20's before moving to NSW Cup after signing him from Souths but I guess he technically still fits. There may also be someone better than Lane to pick but I think he will be a star in a few years

1. Barba
2. Phillips
3. Lafai
4. Mbye
5. Idris
6. Reynolds
7. Sezer
8. Kasiano
9. Carter
10. Klemmer
11. Jackson
12. Lane
13. Finucane

3 Aus reps, 1 NZ rep, 1 Samoa rep, 1 NSW rep, 1 Dally M medalist and 1 country rep

Why? What the f**k would that prove? Which club has the biggest catchment area?

The club with the biggest Junior nursery is the most likely answer. So go with Penrith or Brisbane.

The original article actually shows which clubs are taking steps to develop players to play in the NRL - so it's actually pertinent.

Or do you just hate the Roosters so much that even when they do something positive, you're only interested in looking at something that shows them in a poor light?

Ah Mau and Paasi would be decent bench forwards as would a bunch of current Warriors (Lousi, Lisone, Vete, RFM)

Waddell is the real weak link, but other wise all of those guys are on their way to pretty successful careers (even if rep footy isnt on the cards all of those guys bar Waddell is going to go close to having over 150 FG games), it's a pretty strong team.
