Not SJ, if Paul Kent to be believed, offered back to Warriors,(as Sharks offer $400k) club went to senior players if they would want him back...."thanks but no thanks" was the reply! Ouch!

Haha wow, just read about this. Essentially we would have been paying $600k per season for Johnson, which IMO isn’t terrible. Immediately puts us into contention for a top 6 spot next year.

I wonder who would have been the ones to say no - Tuivasa-Sheck, Hiku, Tohu, Fus and Maumaulo are the only old heads from when he was around last time?

NSW wouldn't stand for it. The media wouldn't stand for it.
Pretty sure Walker will play for Queensland. Grew up in Brissy, and pretty sure the old man played a game or two the Qlanders as well. Not that i think he’s as good as everyone’s making out. Not a fan just yet TBH

It’s interesting isn’t it. Personally I thought that the assessment of SJ was correct in that he hadn’t shown the ability to deliver in the big games and match his price tag, and there was a soft edge to him

On the flip side of that though, offer me Nikorima for 500 or SJ for 600, and it’s SJ every day of the week

Two thoughts come to mind;

1: players would want to protect their position and friends they would lose to get/fit him back in.

2: players should want to have the best players to play with to try to win the competition.

At what point would we be expecting Nikorima to make a decision on his player option for next year?
7 games in and there’s lots of player movement in the halves right now, it feels like we need to know what his plans are next year pretty soon.
Worst case scenario is we have another SJ moment and find out at the end of the year once we’ve let SOS go and there’s no other options around.

“The Sharks have already said that although Johnson is after two years at $1.6million. The Sharks have said we’ll give you one year at half that price."

I don't know where the figure of $600,000 a season is coming from. He is after $800,000 a season. Same money as Reynolds wants. Easy choice.

For me SJ would be worth slightly less than Benji money, only because he is younger.

Good luck SJ, you always thought you were worth more than you delivered.

I'm not overly keen on SJ, but being offered on the cheap seems like a no brainer. Johnson > Nikorima everyday.

He must have a bad relationship with the playing group.

Ohhh I completely misread that. I thought that meant Sharks were willing to pay $400k of his contract for one year, bringing down the total amount to 1.2 mill for 2 years.

Holy heck, that’s a big fat no then!

As in next year? I call absolute horse on that. SJ's last year here was 2018. The players who were there that year, who could be classed as senior players now, are:

Ken Maumalo, David Fusitua, RTS, Jazz Tevaga, Peta Hiku, Tohu Harris.

I can't imagine Ken and Fus being too strong on re-signing SJ. RTS is leaving, so I'm not sure he'd have a big say. So it's essentially saying Hiku, Harris and Tevaga don't want him. Not out of the realms of possibility, but yeah I reckon it's a made up Kent BS story.

True, not sure why I said that. And you could be right, might have a gifted ride at the moment. Does look the goods, has a very mature head on his shoulders

Absolute rubbish from Kent. If there was anyone at the club who has said 'NO' to him returning it would be Cameron George & Peter O'Sullivan.

I agree. Remembering George gave Johnson an (unprofessional) clip out the door at the end of 2018. And potentially there might be a conflict of interest with POS.

I can't guarantee Kent isn't right, but he's a dribbler so we'll go with the fact he is. It just seems completely inplausible.

The Vodafone Warriors have secured two of New Zealand’s hottest young prospects Zyon Maiuu and Jacob Laban on three-year contracts to add more quality to the club’s playing depth for the future.

The 17-year-old Kelston Boys’ High School students are regarded by Vodafone Warriors recruitment manager Peter O’Sullivan as New Zealand’s best young second rowers.

“We are very excited to lock up Zyon and Jacob for the next three years,” he said.

“Both boys complement each other beautifully, Zyon with his competitiveness, skill and toughness and ability to play edge and middle equally as well as the other while Jacob is a gifted, athletic edge back rower with a huge motor.”

Laban, a Randwick Kingfishers junior, moved to Auckland from Wellington this year to complete his year 13 studies and prepare for the next step of his rugby league career with the Vodafone Warriors. Maiuu was named the MVP after the recent NZRL National 20s competition.

“They are thriving and pushing each other in their training, playing and general life skills. It’s also a great story for Kelston Boys’ High School and our working relationship with the school.

“I can’t wait for them to join the top squad in November and get their NRL dreams into action as I have no doubt the boys will go on and become Warriors in the next few years” concludes O'Sullivan.

Ken Labans boy?
Hopefully we can hang onto them. Not like the guy who went to Chiefs and is going great guns.

Now that we have WAlsh and Channel in the halves maybe with Kodi we need a full back and maybe a 2nd hooker

Wouldn’t Charnaz be great value full back leaving heaps of cash for another solid recruit
