Who do you draft with the number 1 pick?

Not sure how much you guys keep up with the College game..

two guys are close to being equal in terms of value according to most draft analysts.

RB Reggie Bush
QB Vince Young

Both are great players but if you were given an option to draft 1 of these guys to your favorite team, who would it be and why?

As a GB fan we could use both but with Favre showing his age QB Young could be a huge pick up, but then we have green who is recovering from a serious injury..he may never be the same again.

Id have to sign Bush and hope with the return of most of the starters on offense that favre gets back into the groove (unless he retires).

As a Giants fan it would be Reggie. Eli is only just getting started, and Tiki isn't getting younger (although he is getting better).

I wouldn't draft Young on account of the fact that it is too early to chuck Eli out. He isn't bad anyway.

Depends on the needs of the team but strategy also plays an important part.

The Texans have first overall pick but another team could trade up to take that pick and depending on their draft order, teams can do very well if they are smart about trading away their draft picks.

For example, the team with the third overall pick may be in dire need of a running back so they trade up for Bush and give the Texans their fist round pick and second round pick for the privelege of first choice in the draft.

If you were the Texans coach, you'd have to seriously consider an offer like that.

Having said that, some of the best players in the NFL were undrafted or late round picks. For Denver, Rod Smith, Shannon Sharpe and Terrell Davis were all late round picks with Smith undrafted and all three are among the greatest Broncos to ever play and all three are bound for the NFL hall of fame.

For the Buccs QB Vince Young, obviously because we drafted Cadillac last year.

Supposing Pittman was still our first RB and we never drafted Williams I'd go with Bush.

Vince Young looks like he has a lot of potential but it is a gamble to see if he has the throwing game required for the NFL.

From the 49ers standpoint, it's Bush. However from the Texans standpoint, it's neither. Trade down with someone who's in love with Bush, and go get D'Brickshaw Ferguson, as Davis is a good back with a recent contract and no-one has seen if David Carr can perform behind a reasonable line.

FWIW here's my problems with Bush, Leinart Young:
Bush - Despite all the highlight reel TD's and all his amazing cut's to the outside, has he proven to anyone that he's an everydown back? He's still the best prospect IMO, but it's a big question mark as to whether a $40mil signing bonus is going to get you the best back in the league or a glorified punt returner and 3rd down specialist.

Leinart - His supporting cast was superior to most. I don't buy 'winning records' at college level, Peyton Manning is an example of that. Should've come out last year as he'd be a certain #1 pick.

Young - I loved his performance in the Rose Bowl. But he's a great college player who won't be able to play everydown in shotgun in the pros. If Mick Vick can't run for 100 yards a game, Vince Young definately won't. His arm mechanics are strange, and him having to learn an offense under centre will take time. I just haven't bought his ability to pass.

Agreed. But we had some success with Sims at the end of this season. It would be good to have Young though and give him a chance to develop under seasoned pro's like Griese.

Even if we dont sign Young, we should look to pick up the next best option for QB as I believe it has been a weak spot for the Bucs for a while now.

Well I'm pretty sure our first pick won't be good enough to pick up Young.

In my opinion it's our offensive line that needs the most work, as you said Simms looks like a solid prospect for the future and Griese has got plenty of quality football in front of him.

Our O line just can't perform against the better front 7's (see the game vs. the Pats) and bringing in some talented youth in that department seems like the way to go.

If you are happy with the running back in Cadillac and believe that a QB with a throwing arm is what is needed?? Wouldnt Leinhart be the better choice over Young??

The Texans need to trade down to someone like the Jets.

If they trade first round picks with the Jets, they can still get 1 or 2 extra picks. Through the draft they could build a decent O-line. Plus, they'd still have Carr and Davis who do have potential. They could draft Reggie Bush, but even he couldn't do that much behind their current O-line. David Carr is going to get killed one of these days otherwise.

I'm beggining to come around to the idea that the Texans should trade down.

But imagine the fan backlash.

True but the topic question gave us a choice of Young or Bush, I agree that Leinhart would be the better choice overall.

Davis has rushed for 1000 yards in each of his 3 seasons in Houston....
He has a new contract worth $21mil......
He's a pretty good back right now, i'm surprised they've made it clear it's Bush despite having a back that's running behind a pitful line and still putting up impressive numbers.

Bush isn't a every down back though.

I think he would also make a pretty decent Slot WR.

For Pittsburgh, LenDale White (not that it's going to happen). With Willie Parker already maturing into a good big play, light weight RB, the Steelers could use an big bruising back to complement him and replace the likely departing Bus.

For Texas with the number one draft pick, you would usually say Reggie Bush, but after watching the way Vince Young played in the Rose Bowl he may have earned himself the number one pick.

But I also agree with Legend. You could probably draft half a team if you were willing to give up Young or Bush as your pick.
