He and Boyd are gonna scare the living crap out of kick chasers next year. I love watching them hit the line a thousand miles and hour!

There are two centres, a winger and a fullback there to do that job as well. I know we love seeing Aku make over 200 metres a game, but when 100 of those are being a quasi-prop I don't necessarily see the point of it. I'd rather see a centre make a break and pass it to Aku in clear air than see Aku make 15-20 metres and get smashed by the oppositions front rowers.

If getting the backs to do the early work is the play, then it needs to be shared around. That's all I'm saying.

But it is shared around Alex. Jimmy and Sau take their fair share of the early work too, they just arnt as effective as Aku and are less memorable

There is simply no reason why Aku cant do both roles effectively because he does it every game right now.

I really dont see what the problem is here

And thus why our front rowers don't make 100 metres plus a game and in turn cop a bagging here for it.

I don't agree with this at all. When Uate does his runs, the forwards often aren't in position, as they are still getting back onside after the kick. Plus it allows the forwards to conserve energy as a result of Uate generally doing a quality hit up early in the set, than rather then have them sprint back and having to deal with a hit up where they will have to try not to get dominated in. Your belief makes very little sense to me.

JW - it isn't really shared around, and it isn't necessarily the others fault. Aku is enthusiastic and goes off his wing chasing the ball, which while commendable, is a waste of his energy. He'd be better off making 100 quality metres and sticking to his side of the field. Hopefully with some more quality players around him he can do that.

BITK - you don't agree with me. What a revelation. All I'm saying is rather than busting his arse making hit-ups, he can let others do some of that work.

I dont get why you're so against this Alex when it clearly doesnt effect his quality as a winger at all. It would be a problem if he was too tired from making early hitups to be in position out wide but that's not the case. The kids likea n energiser bunny

What's the point of limiting him to 100m a game if he can do both roles effectively?

I understand all points being made from both sides here.
I think you would find a large proportion of Uate's votes for best player in the NRL would be comprised of the forwards who are constantly being made to tackle him in the middle of the field. He is the best ball runner in the comp.
I'm happy for him to keep doing it. However, Alex does have a point, Uate consistently tops the hit-ups count, which to me is an indication he does it way too much.
Uate needs to lighten his load and we need to focus on providing him with more opportunities. Having Boyd AND Bennett will help this cause.
On a sidenote, did Aku get MOTM in the game vs souths? IMO his best game to date.

you know what would tell me that he was doing too much?

if he was any less effective in the 79th minute than he is in the first. if he was getting run down from behind by blokes 1/2 his speed. if his enthusiasm was dropping. if there was actually any indication whatsoever that doing the extra work had ill effect on the rest of his game. i see zero indication of this. trying to fix what isn't broken is a complete waste of time. when it becomes a problem, worry about it then...

I'd rather him work out how to be an effective worker while he is still young than have to work it out in 5 or 6 years when he gets a bit older and we're calling for his head because he has lost effectiveness. Wayne will help with that I have no doubt.

Jimmy is as safe as the day is long and if Darius can commit the centres with his wide runs he may find himself over the stripe more often. Not his fault Sau can't pass although i think Wayne will correct this. Jimmy will improve under Bennett but i expect they all will.

It's funny you say that because Isaac Luke got a little two close for comfort in the souths game for Uate's last try.
Clearly the 212 metres he had already run had tired him. Had it of been Merritt or Inglis chasing perhaps he wouldn't have scored that try

Aku cruised that try in. I doubt it had anything to do with him being tired, more to do with the smacking we were already giving them on the score board

I doubt Aku was trying his best. He just ran as fast as he was required to.
