ISABELLE
Club: Sharks
Age: 21
Is this your first year with the Mermaids?
This is actually my fourth year. I was in the squad for a few years before I left to go overseas and I rejoined the squad again this year.
What were you doing overseas?
When I finished school I decided to take a break from study and travel. I went to South Africa and then to London. I was working over there to save up some money to continue travelling but I decided to come home and start university.
What are you studying?
I am studying for a Bachelor of Science, majoring in psychology.
What do you plan to do once you finish?
I still have a lot of study ahead of me but I am interested in practising corporate psychology or child psychology.
How did you become part of the Mermaids squad?
I never had any real desire to get into cheerleading but Wendy, the choreographer, called me up in a frantic state one afternoon to fill in for a girl who had just dropped out. The squad was due to perform on The Footy Show that night so that afternoon I learnt the routine and performed with the girls. I really enjoyed it so I decided to stay on.
What's the best part of cheerleading for the Sharks?
Getting the chance to see all your friends and having a lot of fun. Dancing is often really competitive and it is rare to find such a nice group of people like we have here. "
