I don't know if it's a thing at all clubs, but certainly in Dragonland there seems to be an irrational need to scapegoat someone. For a long while Ryles, and Barrett, wore the mantle. It did seem to have some roots in the fact that they were Illawarra boys rather than St. George boys. At present it's often Prior. I for one struggle to loathe anyone wearing Saints colours, it just seems unnatural.
I remember as a young bloke seeing some drunken low life good for nothing slob who probably never achieved anything in his life giving it to Langlands deluxe. This to a bloke who had given his lifeblood to the club from one of the club's own 'supporters'. What can you say? Idiocy runs deep in some.
