I can't really get into Pac for some reason. Master P- no thanks.

Nas, Mobb Deep, Wu Tang Clan, NZ hip-hop in general, Mos Def, Talib Kweli for me.

I don't mind hip-hop particularly NZ and Aussie stuff. Some of the US stuff is cool too (I dig Outkast) but a lot of the gangsta stuff is a bit naff.

Rap is the second worst genre in musical history, running a close second to RnB

rap is one dimensional

one ponders with amazement the intellect of those that are not bored with it after 3 songs

You didn't answer the question.

Why are you scared of Millers?

I personally love rap. I just can't get enough of biggie, tupac, manhattan transfer, black lace and those other rappers.

oops, I'm mixing rap and crap. Easy to do.

Away from the controversy for a moment, I'm a big Nelly and Chingy fan so I have no problems at all with the style of music. I'm moreso a Hip-Hop fan as opposed to rap and I think people tend to get them mixed up without knowing or giving either style a chance.

I suppose in the end it all comes down to the taste of the individual...?

Well, hip-hop music isn't really any different to rap music, except that I suppose some RnB could be considered "hip-hop infused" or some shit like that. Mostly though, hip-hop refers to the "culture"- you know, incorporating breakdancing, graffiti art, all that.

You didn't answer the question.

I didn't mention him because he isn't a repeat offended like EG and Jimbo, at least as far as I've noticed. Plus I didn't realise I was the advocate for rap who had to reply to every post on the subject.

Generally, Hip Hop is a tasteful style of rap that tends to go beyond just money, murder and sex. It's less agressive, more free-flowing and generally easier to listen to. That's the nice way of trying to explain the difference. We could go on about the difference for a while if we were being very technical about it. A lot of the rap genre owes its roots to Hip Hop music, the grand daddy of the 80's.

Hmmmm El Coco. Interesting thoughts. I would've said that rap music emerged from hip-hop culture. Any music that involves rapping, is, well, rap.

I think Kanye is pretty rad, although I am tiring of his "chipmunks singing the chorus" sampling style. He might want to consider varying his production somewhat for long term appeal. Although I guess it's his thing.
