I'd like Kevin Walters but we will probably end up with Mick Potter. That would really suck....

I'd love to see Ivan Cleary as coach, but he's apparently turned us down last year. It'll be Dean Young, maybe Des Hasler if Doust wants to save his skin.

JD, Walters, Cleary or Hasler. But have a shadow over my thoughts that it will be McGregor for the old boys brigade. Don't feel good about it either.

The question is, if Hasler does get the gig, who does he bring with him from the Bulldogs?

I've also been curious about this. In my opinion Des will want a clean-out at our club if he does decide to join the Red V so he can have the team he wants.
He's pretty keen on Moses Mbye, I always thought that if he did get the coaching job he'd bring Mbye along with him... Probably doesn't need to anymore though with Hunt joining us in 2018.
I also thought Mbye had a clause in his contract to go wherever Hasler goes.

I reckon he'd also want to bring a forward or two with him, probably Klemmer or Kasiano. However this is far more unlikely, both of those guys are signed to long term contracts with the Dogs.

Mbye would be an excellent option at 6 next to Hunt. Much more suited to the role. But of course, I highly doubt we would get Hasler for next year.

Can't imagine he'd take anyone tbh, the dogs management are too smart to let that happen. If anyone it'd be Mbye - who I'd take in a heartbeat! He's out of his depth as an organising 7 but as a creative running 5/8 he will dominate. They definitely f**ked up losing Hodkinson and going with a Mbye/Reynolds combo.

We have a lot of players coming off contract in 2017. Hasler would want to get rid of the dead-wood, keep the promising young talent and maybe buy one or two players.

Under Hasler, players like Widdop and Dugan would most likely play to their full potential.

Josh Reynolds is off contract at end of this year, maybe he would bring him to partner hunt. That would be a handy halves pairing although I don't like the guy generally, very grubby.

I think people have mistakenly thought the poll says "who would you like to be (the Dragons') coach in 2018.

Hasler is no chance. In fact, there's a much higher percentage of McGregor staying on.

Interesting that the first hope of the forum is for the team to do well.
The second is for Mc Gregor to leave.
The trouble is if the first hope comes true the second will be off the table.
What a conundrum.
If we somehow make a fist of it, not sure there is enough crow to go round.

If the team does well, let's say we finish 4th for example, I'd be quite happy for Mary to stay on.

No conundrum imo.

I believe the new coach for 2018 will be announced early in 2017. So no matter what the result in 2017, Mary is on his way. The reason for my belief is that I just can't see Hunt signing with the Dragons unless he was advised who the new coach will be.

Of course I would agree but the ultimate conundrum is what constitutes "does well".
Is 4th your benchmark?

Wouldn't be surprised if its JD. Maybe that's why he was allowed to leave this year, get one more year of experience under another coach.. who happens to be Bennett.

Use that experience and bring it back to the Dragons. Along with working with hunt for a year. The other interesting part is why Nona signed after JD left. Maybe Matt Head to go in as assistant.
