I believe the new coach for 2018 will be announced early in 2017. So no matter what the result in 2017, Mary is on his way. The reason for my belief is that I just can't see Hunt signing with the Dragons unless he was advised who the new coach will be.

I really like your drive for a new coach Possm.

However, I'm not sure we have even secured a new coach at this present time. Whilst I understand your thinking re: Hunt, it could also just be that he was offered a $$$$ deal he couldn't refuse, I mean, 5yrs $1m per season (or thereabouts), he was never going to get that deal anywhere else, regardless of who the coach is or will be.
Humphry B Bear could be coach, but hey I have a 5yr deal, I'm secured until basically I retire from the game. Winning a premiership ring might mean a lot, but setting yourself up for life after footy, particularly for a family man, would take precedent IMO.

Josh Reynolds is off contract at end of this year, maybe he would bring him to partner hunt. That would be a handy halves pairing although I don't like the guy generally, very grubby.

Spot a player has only a short career in league, this contract will set him up for life,

I hate the guy besides he doesn't do much at 5/8. Probably one of the worst controlling halves in the game. He's lucky to have controlling halfbacks such as Hodkinson and Mbye. No ofence to you but I think Reynodls is crap and I would hate to see him playing for the Dragons. The biggest grub in the NRL, worse than Ennis. I hate this guy he's tripped over players about 4 times and never got in trouble, the biggest grub I honestly hate this guy to bits, the fact that he plays for the worst team in the NRL with fans who throw bottles make it even worse.

I think either Mick Potter or Ivan Cleary will be announced as head coach for 2018. I would like JD or Walters but think Mick or Cleary will coach which is ok. I think the Dragons should also get rid of Young and Hornby and demote Mary to assistant and get a new assistant which didn't play for the Dragons. I think they should give McFadden a shot for assistant, he coached the Warriors which is always hard to get results out of them. Mick Potter was treated unfairly at Tigers which was stated in a comment earlier which I agree with, Farah didn't want to play for him so he made the team play poorly and got rid of Potter, Fararh got rid of 2 coaches and tried to get rid of Jason Taylor, Potter started of well in 2014 and got a truckload of injuries, so I think he wouldn't do too bad, nor would Cleary. I don't think anything was finalized with him properly last year also the fact the Mary still had a year to run. Mick or Cleary would be good and I think they are the top most candidates for the job, if Barrett performs poorly I think Des will go back to Manly and the Dogs will get Dean Pay or Jim Dymock as head coach. I think Mary will have 2017 and then go.

They would be my pick as well . JD first pick after a season with Hunt then return with him . He works well with Matt Head and agree with what has been said that he knows our young blokes well .
JD & Walters are still unproven as HC at NRL level. To be honest, i'd err on the side of caution and grab a coach with a few years NRL coaching experience.
