Who would you have in World cup 2007? I would have

Australia
England
New Zealand
Ireland
Wales
France
Pacific Islands (Mixture of Tonga, Fiji , Samoa)
Aboriginies
USA
Scotland

I am confident these 10 teams could make a very interesting world cup (Accept maybe Scotland, im unsure of them).

We need a Emerging Nations World Cup as well. Even if it was hosted in Europe so the nations that don't qualify can take part in the World Cup program.

An Emerging Nations World Cup is extremely important.

Australia

New Zealand
France
Wales
Scotland
Ireland
PNG
Two others (not sure who)

As for Griffs idea, sure it sounds exciting but 16 teams is way too many. We will have 12 at the absolute maximum.

Two entrys, perhaps:

Russia
Lebanon
USA

I really disagree with any teams such as:

Aboriginies
Maoris
Pacific Islanders

They are not countries, just groups, makes our WC look silly if they are in there.

I'm sure Malta would come in there somewhere, yeah?
And Germany?

For sure and any countries that miss the World Cup should be able to play in an Emerging Nations World Cup.

My concern is for the likes of Germany, Holland, Serbia travelling to Australia-Cost, time of work etc.Europe Would be better to play emerging nations and in one of those nations like Holland, Serbia, Germany etc rather than England and France. Its just my personal opinion.Maybe run it in the summer in Europe as weather would be better, more chance of people attending from UK and more media coverage than running at same time as WC.

There's a few articles in which it seems there's some effort being organised to ensure Samoa and Tonga have strong teams for the world cup with NRL players playing for both sides. (I think it was referred to in the article about the upcoming ARL player registry which talked about the two teams having something like 30 or 40 players to choose from, not sure if this meant NRL players, or NSWRL and QRL players, or a combination of both...?)

I think the teams so far will look something like:

Northern Hemisphers:

England
Ireland
Scotland
Wales
France

Southern Hemisphere:

Australia
New Zealand
Tonga
Samoa
Papua New Guinea

With two spaces still up in the air giving us a strong twelve side world cup.

Possibly, the nations listed were just examples. But there needs to be some criteria laid down to ensure no team can get to the WC on the grandparent rule alone.

Any nation that has a domestic comp should get a chance to qualify, and go through their regional qualifiers.

Germany, Holland, Malta etc have essentially no chance of making it into the main event. But giving them goals in terms of domestic development to make it in to the qualifiers, then international experience in the qualifiers would be big boosts to the game there, even if they don't make it to the WC.

Ok this is how I see it..

10 team World Cup to keep costs down as we don't need another failure like 2000.

Group A TO be played in Australia
Australia
England
P.N.G
Wales
Tonga

Group B
N.Z TO be played in New Zealand
Somoa
France
Ireland
Russia

Finalists of last world cup automatically qualify with the rest playing off for places in the road to the world cup.

3 Qualify from the South Pacific rim
P.N.G/Fiji/Somoa/Cook Islands/New Caledonia/Tonga

4 Qualify from the Western Europe Top Tier
England/Ireland/Scotland/Wales/France/Germany/The Netherlands

1 Qualify from the rest of the world
Morroco/Russia/Georgia/Argentina/Jamaica/Lebanon/USA

guys, i would not go anywhere past 10 maybe 12 who knows, as for a emerging nations proably not, might have a emerging southern hemiphere & nothern hemiphere cup, too expensive to fly the european nations over, this is a calculated guess.

if ten this is who would be in it the first six pick themselves
1 australia 2 england 3 new zealand 4 france 5 png 6 wales(harris, briers, cunningham & mason will strengthen them greatly & scott gibbs & deverux will play)
then next will proably be
7.tonga(strong nation plus heritage players)
8.samoa(if the rumour is true will qualify on the back of there huge heritage yet they don't have a comp)
9.fiji ( a numbers of players playing in nrl, sl, nl1 plus good compition)
10.lebanon(tremendous heritage list plus nicely run comp & host med cup every year)

if 12
11.georiga(my bolter if 12, , have strong gov backing & player list)
12.this is tough this could be fought out between, usa, cooks, ireland, scotland & maybe jamacia depending on there players available.
i think with no confidence usa if all players available first strength side compititive with worlds best any injuries get beat by nsw country sides.

my plan would be is to have nothern hemiphere emerging cup in say scotland the field would include serbia, scotland, ireland, russia (if still playing league) germany, holland, morrocco, malta, greece, italy, estonia, canada, jamacia.
the southern cup in png with the teams cooks, new cal, south africa(who knows if they play), japan, aregentina, singapore.

I agree that the top teams are

Australia- Hard to see a loss in a home soil World Cup
NZ- Always competitive in the top 3
England- Squad to push
Wales- Decent outfit but long way off the top 3.
PNG - Should be strong with SL and NRL players

All these teams will be strong due to the large ancestory players playing in the
Tonga
Somoa
Fiji
Possibly Lebanon

Ireland always seem to have a reliable squad of grandparent rule players.
Scotland I feel shouldn't be there.

Would like to see the Russians there but not sure on the state of their league at the moment? Can anyone help?
