Who would your Round 1 team be?

Anasta was always going to be the starting no6, it would not have mattered one bit if Austen or Mosses were in Wally Lewis type form during the trials, Anasta name was already on the team sheet at six for round one .

With Potters head already on the block with the axe hovering, he will not gamble and will lean towards fit and tried and trusted players. So I expect a very conservative approach to the team selection. If we happen to be running 1-5 after the first six seeks, than you will see the left field selections if he is still around.

A few weeks ago I was very vocal in my disapproval of Anasta being in the 17, Iam now actually coming around to the idea and will reserve judgment for a month. The combo of a kid and a old head might just work

It amazes this new found ground swell of support for Anasta around here. Perhaps people have forgotten how truly horrible he was last year. Yes it sounds good in theory having him provide experience and a cool head for Brooks, I have very grave doubts if it will turn out the way. He was finished last year, I fail to see how he is going to somehow improve a year older.

He is our best option.
His best attribute is defence so if he just knuckles down in that and running the ball, that's all we need.
No playmaking. Maybe an offload on the edges but that's it. Leave that to Brooks and Farah.

Asking Anasta to run? Its like asking Moltzen to do a kick return.

Perhaps we should have played Anasta at 7 & Brooks at 6 (with more room to move)

He played his best game of the year with Brooks.

He thrives in a structured environment & we have options if he does not work out

Bodene Thompson will be in the backrow mix for rd 1 I think, based on the coach wrapping him in pre-season media.

Our season rests a lot with tapau and gavet, given they weren't around last year. If those two players contribute during the first part of the season then WT will be a much better side in 2014.

We were belted in the ruck every game last year

Tend to agree as these two players certainly showed plenty of raw power during our two trials that has been missing for so long.

I just hope they can reproduce that power against top line packs where the going is not easy

Anasta will get the 5/8 gig first up due to his experience only, when its evident that he is a liability Austin will be given a chance.

Yeah. True but it's better than having turnstiles as our other options.
I really think it will be a really defensive orientated competition this year.
If Anasta just does nothing but be a defensive 5/8 then I'm happy.

A good defensive halves pairing is something we've never had until now.

This is reality. Maybe Anasta will come good but last year he was terrible.

Not nesicarily my team but what I think we'll see:

1. Tedesco
2. Nofoaluma
3. Lulia
4. Lawrence
5. Richards
6. Anasta
7. Brooks
8. Woods
9. Farah (c)
10. Taupau
11. Thompson
12. Paterson
13. Blair

14. Austin
15. Gavet
16. Fulton (if fit, if not then BMM)
17. Galloway (if fit, if not then Buchanan)

I have a feeling potter will go with Austin on the bench for the first few rounds, once again not my choice, just what I think potter will do.

This would be my team though I expect Anasta to start and Austin to be on the bench at the expense of Sue. Would not be surprised to see Galloway start with Taupau on the bench. Also interesting to see that Simona is listed as good for round 1 or 2.

1. Tedesco
2. Nofoaluma
3. Richards
4. Lawrence
5. Koro
6. Austin
7. Brooks
8. Woods
9. Farah (c)
10. Taupau
11. Paterson
12. Fulton
13. Blair

14. Sue
15. Gavet
16. BMM
17. Galloway

Would you really go for 3 forwards (fulton, galloway, sue) who haven't played any trial games? Just seems too big an ask for me, especially when there are some decent options available who have.

I totally agree with the team if they were all fully fit btw

Even with those 3 maybe a bit underdone I think they would go fine. Especially considering that Galloway and Sue can come off the bench and that Woods and Blair are able to play fairly big minutes if required. Fulton is fairly mobile as well and isn't required to play the full 80 with BMM, Sue, Paterson and Blair able to rotate in the backrow. Also, if they don't play we don't really have that much depth at the moment; with both Siro and Halatau injured we really only have Buchanan, Nathan Brown and Bodene Thompson to come into the side.

If Simona is good to play then I see the outside backs as DanOz describes.

I reckon this is bang on the money, exactly what I would think the team will be rd1. Fulton may push Bodene out to the bench if hes 100% fit.
Im really keen to see Gavet come off the bench. I have a really good feeling about this guy, hits like a truck and has good pace for his size.
