Whoever Wins the 2020 Premiership...

given the current circumstances of a stop start season, time of uncertainty, possibly being away from family support etc a good argument could be made that whoever wins this year will have overcome more than most to take out the title.

And if the proposed solution of a 15 round comp where everyone plays everyone once, in a closed stadium, everyone isolated... that's basically putting everyone in the same circumstances, everyones facilities are identical, there is no home ground advantage, no soft or hard schedule etc

I think this shapes up as the fairest premiership in decades. Whoever wins will have earned the right to call themselves champions, and the 15 loser clubs who lost can try to belittle that if they want (lord knows i will if its a club im not a fan of! :D ) but as i said, it wont stop those fans, those players and that club from celebrating it, putting their trophy on display, and history will record them rightly as champions. So f**k what other fans say

It will depend on how many rounds we get in and how different it is from the initial 26 rounds

It will certainly be viewed as different, and if we come to finals with crowds still not allowed I do think it will feel more like the old pre season Tooheys Challenge final over a legitimate Premiership

Have more weight than the ones they stripped from Melbourne.

They still think they won.

Still got them.

I can acknowledge they’re stripped but the memories will always stick, going on road trips to the GFs with the old man and all that
At least melbourne managed to win while rorting the cap... every other munted team has failed, until the roosters are found out ;)

I find humour in Broncos fans talking about salary caps. Triggered to laugh is about all.
One would be naive to think that their team has not attempted a good old salary cap scandal.

I got exactly the response from you by way of a particular reaction (your reply) from a fun joke with a fellow forum member. So yes, triggered. Darling.

...Do you think they’ll be acknowledged at large by the RL community, or will fans denigrate the title as a result of COVID’s interference?

Fans can be idiots. So let's not worry about them. This forum teaches us that there's always a group of people who will find fault in anything to make themselves feel less hollow.

Will the title be bonafide? Well if the side is within the salary cap and has no drug cheats amongst them, then hell yeah. If it's a 15-round comp, you've played everyone, you've reached the sudden-death stage, you won a GF (and probably in front of fans at that time) - I can't think of any argument as to why that's not legitimate. Yeah OK so it's not quite as lengthy as a 26-round season, but whatever side wins will have faced its own unique challenges.

And there's no comparison to 1997. That was a split comp. Every side in the NRL will be competing this year. All the best players.

We're used to asterisks - what's one more?

Those asterisks are to signify years you cheated and undeservedly lifted the trophy. And therefore were stripped. The team that wins this year will have no asterisks
