LOL @ All you guys turning on Maloney LOL

Yeah he is NOT the best defender and gets alot of protection from the critics out there (You know, like Manu)

He is attack pure and simple, also tends to be a person in the right place at the right time. Oh look what we have here James Maloney leading POINTS scorer at the moment for the NRL, not bad not bad

If everyone turns on Maloney then be consistent FFS, Manu needs to cop this same crap, merkins LOL

So he misses a few tackles. (He doesn't shirk them).

He is also
No 1 on the list of Most points scored.
No 1 on the list of most conversions
No 8 on list of try assists
No 9 on list of linebreak assists.

He scores way more than he lets in.

He seems to never kick any of the conversions which really matter though, eg. the 2 in the GF last year. I've also noticed him pretty much always miss when the Warriors are trailing and the goal is required to get the Warriors back within 6 points.

How is it turning on Maloney for pointing out the obvious, which is that Maloneys defense has been terrible? I like the guy but it is just a fact. And to point out the fact that he is leading point scorer as a sign that he is some unbelievably good attacking player that means his poor defense is alright and shouldn't be pointed out is laughable.

I thought Fish had a good game, TBH. I didn't think he was out of position much at all. THe Tuqiri try maybe, but weren't they spreading the ball from the other side of the field? He can't be everywhere. He did coincidentally save a try from a scoot from dummy half as well.

Yeah pretty hard to stop that one- pin point kick and tuqiri timed his run perfectly- credit where it's due. Plus from memory the kick came early in the count and caught us (particulary tupou) by surprise. Bit tough blaming that one on the fish.

Hard. I think Maloney chokes with his kicking.
Although I don't think he is as accurate, I want to see Johnson take over next season; he is a pretty cocky dude so I don't think he would choke under pressure.

Don't buy this at all tbh.

He kicked that sideline conversion against the storm in the semi to put us 8 points clear

The Roosters game a couple of years ago where Kevin Locke boned the goal posts, Maloney kicked brilliantly to keep us in it. Defence wise... I think he's a tad bit overrated TBH. Yep, he comes up hard and fast, but geez he slides off some tackles, and if he does nail them, he has a love-in for lying in the play-the-ball and giving away a penalty. That said, he is one of our best players by a long margin. We'll struggle without him IMO.

On those criticising Fish for the lack of first grade tries... in fairness, has the bloke received half decent ball with a half decent opportunity to score? He got a half chance against the Roosters and destroyed them. Other than that... it seems Mateo has decided offloading's not his go anymore, and we're back to bombing for MAnu a fair bit. I think its a matter of timing and combinations TBH more than anything else. I thought he looked dangerous against the Tigers. He was jogging alongside Hurrell as he scored, and he made another half bust out of nothing as well. I don't know if there's an expectation because he has scored an epic amount of tries in reserve grade that he's going to come in and do a job like Brett Mullins did on the Knights all those years ago. It just doesn't happen TBH.

You'd rather have Maloney than not have him, surely. However, he's made his decision for family reasons and, as we know, he's off to Sydney (the sunny weather he experienced here in the last week must have made him even more homesick).

It's a good question about what to do when he goes, we'll miss him for sure, although he's below par this season, for some reason he doesn't seem as dynamic. Already thinking of 'a-list' Bondi parties perhaps?

Personally I like the talk of bringing a junior up, rather than Leuluai. But discussion here confirms no one is quite ready.

And back to those two missed conversions in last year's GF. What anti-climactic moments, you could see the crowd just deflate as one. 18-14 as it's anyone's match, right up to the bell, even 18-12. But at 18-10 we were just too far out.

Poor Maloney, he did his best. The wind got to those kicks, no?

I said it in a previous post and I'll say it again here, that Mateo didn't have too many running off him at any stage in last weeks game. Too spite Doug's assertions of the awesomeness of Fish's support play he ran one of the only two runs in support of Mateo that I can recall. I'm glad Mateo didn't try to pass on either occassion, because he would have coughed it up for sure.

A few of the previous weeks have been similar. I don't know if Bluey's given the order to taihoa or what, but the runner ain't there to go with the offload anyway.

There is some really strange logic in this thread, such as how dare people mention Maloneys defense which has been much worse than the 2010 and 2011 seasons and directly responsible for multiple tries now. You can't say anything about it because he is kicking goals at 76%!!! Thats unheard of in the NRL! Someone kicking at 76%, wow.

You'll find most rants, and not just Feddies are where people are defending players who've been unfairly or excessively criticised, good on them

strange logic here... using Freddies name as an example where people are defending players... when he's ranting the exact opposite...

dont worry Addict, I get your point.

I was just having a cheap dig at my old friend fat_freddie.. :D

That's remarkable given that my points are usually so obscure that I forget them by the time I get to the punchline:D
