Dear wife purchased Gals book for me last week and I finished reading it last night.

Found it to be a good read, interesting and a good bit of insight as to what was going on inside the tent.

I suppose having some knowledge of the timeline of events and being able to relate to the names of the players and individuals mentioned over Gals playing career added to the intrigue.

The 2016 chapters were great. Gal even stated that they had training drills to cover the last 60 seconds of the GF.

As I said I really enjoyed the read but a couple of things I did take a mental note of. Lyall only got mentioned once I think in the whole book and no mention of Sir Thomas of the Bishop in the bit about the announcement of the Team of the Half Century. Big Cliff got a mention but no Tommy.

Sheeze when you read the book you realise how many serious injuries The Gal had over his long career and how much he played whilst carrying injuries.

The chapter and content of his boxing stint didn't set the world of fire for me. Most of those bouts he had were with blokes that were at times his sparring partners. Work that one out?

While i respect everything he's done for the Sharks over the years i doubt I'll be reading/buying it. Heard it's selling like hotcakes north of the border though!

I tried lending it to half a dozen of my two headed donkey mates up here in The Park. Four of them confessed to being unable to read and the other two were busy trying to forget their NRL history making 58 to NIL score result from this years finals series.

I am about 3/4 of the way through the book - For me, because there is so much media and coverage of Rugby League, I knew most of what was written.

When Steve Roach, Wally Lewis, Peter Sterling or Mario Fenech released their books in the 1980's many of their experiences and stories had never been reported in the media, so it was fascinating and thoroughly enjoyable reading.

To this point, other than a few personal experiences, there is no real WOW moments in Gal's book because 95% of what is written is/was already public knowledge.

I also get a strong sense that for Legal reasons Gal didn't really launch into the ASADA debacle, other than his own personal experiences where he stated he followed every procedure he was taught from the time he was seventeen.

It has been a good read, but considering how much he has been through and how polarising of a player he was, it isn't particularly explosive.

These blokes have usually twittered it all before anyway.

I saw a clip of Fifita after the test match last weekend
He just got off the plane??
He said he’d just posted in social media about it but didn’t know what to say.

Every time they take a dump they take a pic and put in a full social media report on it
