Why are there 1.5 hour gaps between NYC and NRL matches?

Next Friday NYC is at 5:15pm and the Roosters Cowboys game is at 8pm.
It was like this yesterday too with an almost two hour gap between NYC and the NRL. The half hour gap was stupid enough.. but now an almost two hour gap? Why?

I would really like to watch NYC but really don't want to sit in a stadium watching the sky for two hours while waiting for the main game.

When the gap was only 10 minutes most fans would purposely arrive at the game halfway through reserve grade. Not being able to watch a warm up game is like a UFC/boxing fight with no preliminary card and reduces the "match day experience" and value.

The Holden Cup match will probably finish around 6:55pm - 7:00pm.

Part of the reason is that the NRL teams need time to warm up on the field before kick off.

Some teams warm up for at least 35 minutes.

I also hate the length of time between grades.

Think part of the reason is so the teams can warm up on the field, practice bombs etc. From a fans perspective it makes it a lot less appealing to watch the NYC.

They should get over the extremely long warm up. These guys are supposed to be world class athletes. No other sport that I can think of has that much of an on field warm up.

I can't stand the long warm up either. Just about all grounds have access to exterior warm up fields, let them warm up there

Thats why a lot of people now arrive at the game at least 5 minutes before kick off.

I remember the days at Parramatta Stadium, you can see them train on the oval next to the ground, while the reserve grade was playing. Then after the reserve grade had finished, there was at least 5 minutes of little league, then another 5 minutes of going through players names on the big screen, then kick off.

Yeah it used to be like 10-15 mins max between reserve grade and first grade

You'd have reserve grade shaking hands, warm down and then clap the first grade onto the field.

Totally agree with how shit it is. No point getting to a game an hour early to watch your team but up practice bombs and stretch for 45minutes. On a Friday who can get to a game at 5.15 to watch the 20s? Well apart from souths fans obviously

Happened when I went to watch Reading play Ipswich in the soccer last month.

Never been to an NFL game then, Or EPL, or MLB.

NFL players are out 2 hrs or more before game time doing stuff.

Yep, most elite athletes usually just crack their knuckles and get stuck into it.

The on field warm up really spoils the sense of excitement when the teams run out on the field - we have already seen them. I hate it. Would much rather be watching a lower grade game.

And it may sound silly, and probably just me, but if they are going to warm up on-field - I think they should wear training shirts - not their actual jerseys. Save them for the game.

I agree that the gap is too long, I could even cop 30mins but would prefer 15mins.

As has been said, it won't be a 2 hour gap between games. Considering the Holden Cup game is 40 minute halves, with 10 minutes for half time, once you add in stoppages, the game will probably finish at around 7.00 pm. The length of the break till First Grade is in case the Holden Cup has to go to extra time. That has been factored in for nigh on a decade (if not longer) come finals time.
