Why can't we defend a big total? Mick Lewis, Shane Watson, Mitchell Johnson and Cameron White. That's why.

Something like 47 overs fromn the World Cup attack in each of these two games.. White bowled 3 overs in those two games

We've all had to listen abouty how wonderful your domestic comp is - if so, where are the bowlers???

Meh, 350 on that feild and pitch is not a huge total IMO. equivalent to probably 270-280 on an australian feild.

I think the problem was that that we thought it would be enough not considering the ridiucloulous ground sizes and pathetic pitch conditions.

We should have been aiming for well over 400 on that ground.

I don't know what obsession ground staff have of preparing tracks like the ones we saw in the last 2 matches. Do they think seeing batsmen like Hayden and mcmillan slogging good length balls outside off stump over the mid wicket boundry with ease is entertaining???

Is seeing 1400 runs in 2 one day internationals entertaining??

Apart from the final over of the last 2 matches, it has almost put me to sleep.

When are we going to start seeing some even competition bewtween bat and ball again?

Hopefully the West Indies tracks will sort the batsmen from the flat track bullies.

Mate, that was the biggest total ever in an ODI in NZ, and we've been playing on the same fields and pitches in ODI cricket for the last 35 years.

I haven't seen a pitch like that in NZ ever before. The way both sides were able to treat the bowlers with contempt was comedy not cricket.

It definatly wasn't a huge total. As I said equivalent to probably 270-280 in Australia which is more than acheivable. Still a very good score but the chasing side would back their chances.

I just think Australia could have scored much quicker in the early overs to post a score of over 400 which would be the equivalent of 320-330 in Australia which would have put the Kiwis all but out of the game.

I honestly don't think the Aussies have too much to worry about for the WC. The batting is going exceptionally well and the bowlers will get some assitance from the pitches over there.

Having said that my money is going on SA to win the cup

ffs, it was just a flat pitch. Flat pitches have always existed and you get them from time to time all over the world (quite often lately in NZ, actually.)

The bowler is still able to bowl with whatever pace, line, length, cut or spin he can muster, and if he's any good he should be able to restrict the batsman somewhat. A pitch can only be so good. A concrete wicket still isn't a 400 pitch- there's no such thing as a 400 pitch.

I don't think it was a 400 pitch, it was probably a 350 pitch. So Australia were about par for the course, and NZ were better. Simple as that.

Just don't agree with the perception that the total was enormous.

In what context is 350 not a huge score? It's one of the biggest scores ever, it's the 2nd biggest chase ever, it's the biggest score ever in NZ- I really don't know what context you could find to suggest that 350 is a par score.

ok, so it's not a huge score in the context of "recent CH series matches played in NZ", but I think you'd have to extend that to "recent CH series matches played in NZ, taking into account poor bowling and fielding performances and two sides who happen to be laden with good batsman and piss poor bowlers".

For heavens sake...the highest score previously at Hamilton was 280 odd.
At Auckland was about 310 or something like that. Sorry that excuse of ground size doesn't wash.

A pitch that offered more for the bowlers we won. We had Bond and Vettori...nobody else really. You Had McGrath Bracken and Hogg (whom most of you wee in agreeance should have been playing). Half of you complained.

We put on pitches that offered more for the batsman, we won. Would Ponting and or Gilchrist have made much difference to the overall score? I doubt it.
But you still complain about the pitch, about the ground size...player unavailablity (strangely this time it wasn't us all injured).
