Why did we get smashed by the kiwis?

Has sheens relied too heavily on his aging squad?

I hear Bellamy is in line to replace him, would be ironic for sheens because bellamy will certainly keep picking his club players.

Many reasons have been trotted out, some reasoable, some weird but almost every commentator has failed to mention one thing, New Zealand are simply a better team.
Their forward pack was miles ahead of ours, letting their halves (Johnson and Foran) have time they haven't been able to get in the nrl. Chuck in a dependable backline and they are easily a better team.

Our bench forwards were dominanted.

Bird, Thaiday and Woods all performed but were let down by the remainder of the pack.

GI is playing on one leg and Slater is still the best fullback in the world (and the best I have ever seen).

Cronk and Thurston didn't gell (surprisingly) but probably from their forwards being dominanted.

Remember the Morris boys were also missing.

We'll get these pricks in the World Cup and it will be even more sweet.

Inglis is lazy. Not because a news article said so. It's been evident for a long time. He fades in and out.

Smith/Cronk/Thurston getting old. Thurston is the best out of the 3 currently, and I think the back half of this season will see a massive slide from the Storm blokes. Bird fits into this category too. Thaiday and Parker as well for that matter. Also Lewis.

We had 4 debutants, one played out of position on the wing.

Nate Myles, wtf? His club wanna get rid of him and we're picking him to rep Australia?

Tamou has been garbage all season, then gets picked. lol.

Brett Morris was injured.

My Team would have been:

1. Inglis
2. Dugan
3. Chambers
4. Jennings
5. Roberts
6. Cherry-Evans
7. Thurston
8. Scott
9. Smith (c)
10. Woods
11. Cordner
12. Papalii
13. Merrin

Interchange: Segeyaro, Fifita, McGuire, R.James

It's time for the young blokes to take over.

Thaiday really went into his shell after taupua's throat slit gesture. Sam is good when his team is rolling on and he can dish it out, but he's not good when players dish it back. Case in point is the broncos roosters game a few weeks back, sam smashed jwh a few times but that didn't stop jwh from running at him all game, but whenever sam had the ball, he avoided Jared like he had the plague

Corey Parker says hi.

He was the best forward on the park by a street.

Parker was outstanding, I thought - that aside, we were simply better - and at full strength we match up pretty well, things looking rosy here...

Apart from the Foran reference because I think he had a quiet game in a the scheme of things, most of this is a fair assessment.

One of the things that used to play into Australia's favour against Kiwi teams of the not so distant past was a fitness advantage that saw us dominate and over run them in the final 5-10 of each half...

but with the playing rosters both coming off NRL comp level fitness, they out enthused and out muscled Australia, particularly at the back end of the first and second halves.

The other key thing was the predictability of the Australian game plan - they knew the switch plays designed to get Inglis coming back through the middle, they were prepared and they smashed him every time he got the ball, almost as it was being passed.

We might have been short of a full strength side but we had 17 on the paddock, just like them and our 17 were dominated, almost to a man.

It will be interesting to see what the make up of the next Australian side is

My issue with your team is that despite what you said above, you have picked a team that contradicts your points.

You still picked a lazy Inglis and two debutants on the wing out of position.

But I do agree with some of the selections.

The problem is that when a team is winning it is not changed and then Australia is left with a divide between the more experienced players and the rest of the eligible players.

Meanwhile...Kiwis go off to England for a 3-test series against the 3rd ranked (and improving?) English side while Oz wanders off into the sunset for a year with nothing but Origin-fever to test them as a national (?)team. Who knows what other international games NZRL is planning as well?

World cup rolls around again and the Kiwis, as a complete, & still young national team(barring injuries), are a well-oiled machine who have racked up some invaluable experience.

Long time between sweet treats...
