The Broncos were created because the NSWRL clubs used gaming machine revenue to plunder the BRL clubs into bankruptcy. The QRL resisted fielding a team in the NSWRL until there was no other alternative.

At a function in Brisbane Poky Morgan, John Ribot de Froggy etc (under a few XXXX) convinced Rupert Murdoch to go for rugby league.They figured the administration would fold easily under the weight of News loot.However Kerry(people should minimise taxes) Packer also had a lot of loot.
Players went to the highest bidder, the ARL money was used up.
Further money wasted in court.The 1997 two comps were a cluster f@ck.
Had to get back together.Compromised .Flicked a couple of clubs, merged others.News then controlled the money with TV deals ,not now.
After a few clueless CEOs, we now have a decent comp(not perfect) and under the new board are getting our a#ses into gear.
Meantime the fumblers gained footholds in NSW and Old .They stood on the sidelines whilst we as a code ripped ourselves apart like a pack of hyenas ripping apart a baby zebra.We wasted heaps of dosh, and were ahead of AFL in the early 90s.

The News Ltd empire had its genesis in Adelaide as that was where its initial media interest were acquired when his father, Sir Keith (also Melbourne born) bought two of its newspapers.

To be fair, it is my source of amusement when I get home from work at night.
I have a couple of beers, put music on, then it's time to read The "Tails" of The Donkey.
It's a nasty little habit I've adapted.
