Why didn't we "deserve" to win?

 it was somewhere between 4m and 6m... nowhere near 12m!

TBH i remember Lockyer throwing a ball around 15 meters forward when he threw a ball to wendel saylor from middle of the field facing his own try line (salior was on the right wing but lockyer threw the pass from right to left - i.e he was facing backwards). That try was called as floating forward and i think KK ball floated forward rather then a forward pass.

It floated forward alright....almost into the foyer of the Leagues club.

It was a forward pass but it was nowhere near as bad as people are making out!

There was definitely a floating forward issue that made it look much worse than it was.

I think the reason it was allowed was the way he threw the ball, his action was perfect for it to look like it was one of those passes that actually went backwards and then floats forward.

The problem was the way he was facing when he threw it, if we was facing directly north and threw the same pass it would not have been forward (except for the natural floating part).

Anyways, who cares???? We finally got a call go our way, that RARELY ever happens and as oldmancraigy said, if it was thrown back we will still going to score!

I posted yesterday, how I was glad that we had taken the 2 points. At the same time though, I didnt believe that Parra deserved to win the game - not just because of the suspect pass, but, the entire first 50 minutes. I am as biased as the bloke next to me, with one blue eye and one gold eye - but, I can still admit when the refs have had a shocker. It doesnt mean that I am not glad of taking the win from Manly nor the 2 points.

At the end of the day, I didnt see many positives out of a game where:

Poore (our BIG signing) once again gave away easy penalties for being a dickhead in our own 1/2 (which imo is very unlike any Parra players, as I have not seen a cheap shot artist play for Parra for a long time). Someone needs to clip him over the head, and tell him to cut out the niggly sh*t, that puts pressure on the team. Do his job, cart the ball up, and tackle for dear life.

Daniel Mortimer is holding on to the ball too much or for too long and getting caught with the ball. May not be just his fault, because nobody was running on to the ball, but, he needs to learn that he can pass it out the backline (thats what Timana is there for) instead of getting creamed by centres that are double his size. (It is only a matter of time before he starts to feel the pain from those hits).

As mentioned in a post prior to the first round - we do not have anyone, other than maybe Kris Keating, that can kick a ball to a part of the park, that doesnt have someone waiting to catch it. Mortimers kick out on the full was out by 5 metres, and Hayne's was not much better. Personally, I think Robson is a rock in defense and able to read the defense much better than Mortimer (who needs to learn). I would be going with a Robson Keating combo at the moment personally. I think Mortimer needs to spend a bit more time learning and fine tuning. Maybe all the hype has affected his attitude or ability a bit, I dont know.

Im not being negative, and after watching both games yesterday afternoon, I think we will take the Tigers on Friday night. I expect that finally having a win, after losing in the grand final (big punch to the gut) and losing 3 trials, then our first game narrowly - that the boys now know what it is to win again, and hopefully the giant will have been awoken.

End Rant

It was pretty bad! HE threw it forward (Roy Masters would've been cranky - threw the ball off the wrong foot!)

I almost caught it today - it floated forward around the world - but Reddy swooped in and nabbed it. He's strolling back to Parra stadium to put it down under the black dot right now.

I guess the same could be said about the Storm and Cowboys, did they deserve to win? they somehow won after being down by 14. We werent great but we werent the only team to get lucky with a win.

Well, we can take the forward pass out of the 'deserve to win' equation now, given Finch's admission over the first Manly try

I agree with your initial comments.

I still believe we didn't deserve to win ... but that's not to say Manly deserved to win either.

I just think a better team without rookie halves (even less experienced than our own) and maybe not missing a couple of key players wouldn't have capitulated as Manly did.

It was a "Get Out of Jail Free".

In Round 1, Hayne kicked out on the full going for a 40-20 and it heralded a period of intense pressure requiring tonnes of on-line defence.

In Round 2, Mortimer does the same ... and then Hayne does it again.

I hate the Roosters, but in Round 1 the commentators talked about how they "earned the right" to be showy by winning the battle of the ruck. In the Eels games, our players have tried to push the big plays in high pressure situations early in the match.

Then Hayne conjures a bit of magic, we win and I worry if any lessons are really learnt. That said, I think Ando is a good coach and won't let them off the hook too for jagging a result.

Hopefully Manly finally played Hayne and the Eels back into form!

feels like we lost and then found two points sitting in the gutter outside the stadium its our lucky day!
