Wests and Balmain weren't arch rivals, at least not anything like the Dragons and Cronulla are, let alone Norths and Manly were.

I think the topic should be changed to why don't the IRB start again and just play bRugby League because thats what loggerheads between the NH v SH is about RULES.

So there would only be 4 sydney teams this way and this would make a major expansion, get rid of melbourne as they are not a rugby league supported city,they like AFL so let them keep it

And kill off more fans??? IF the NRL did that it would certainly break the trust bond forever between fans the the league... haven't fans suffered enough with teams merging? getting culled? getting moved? going broke? bad admins?

Let's hope we have one or 2 seasons where the fans get alot out of the NRL... because disappointment we have already been there over and over again.

Hmmm. Not quite sure I get it.

it doesnt have to be precise geographic wise.

but it's important to spread the isolated teams amongst the sydney and queensland teams in all divisions............hence MEL in North, NZW in south, NEW in east, and CAR in west.

MEL fits best in the North with the Queensland teams because they are basically a queensland club recruiting wise.

it will also help develop the Victorian rugby league market to ensure MEL play the highest profile rugby league team in the country twice.

plus, due to News Ltd bankrolling them, it's also no secret that they have the biggest off-field (as well as the on-field :lol dept expenditure of any club. they can afford flying to NQ every year. the next most logical north team is NEW, and putting them in the north division would kill em IMO. no rivalry, and increased expenditure for the club (which is a financial minnow off the field) to fly to queensland 3 times a year. Their biggest rival is Manly and they get them in the east division.

All divs were considered with major regional rivalries in mind.
