Why don't we ever "raid" Union?

It's been a long time since we bought a wallaby. They constantly grab our top players and we just take it. Surely we could poach a Beale, Cooper, O'Connor type player. Could take a swipe at the AB's or Springbok's

You wouldn’t want the Wallabies, you couldn’t afford the All Blacks, and the Springboks aren’t interested.

They play kickby as League requires you to tackle.

Third rate athletes who could not make the other teams.

How old is Beale now anyway? He must be eligible for a pension soon

As others have said we now get them when they’re teenagers. That said, there’s only a handful of rugby union clubs in the world (France and Ireland) that have a higher salary cap than the NRL. That gap is also likely to shrink. The main reason more haven’t switched is because NRL clubs haven’t gone after them. Forget the All Blacks. There are 17 teams at this year’s Union World Cup where if a player was poached they would likely end up earning 2 to 5 times their lifetime earnings just by switching to the NRL. It’s just that nobody is going to ask if they’re interested.

We do, but it’s at schoolboy level… thanks RU, merkins
This is why I argue as a code they should be trying to build up high school football rather than focus on local clubs as the focus of the doorway into the game.

Yeah All Blacks are priced out of contention by the NZ system as are the top home nations players, but players from countries like Georgia, Romania and of course the PIs are valid targets.
