Never mind the crisis going on about Sydney having too many NRL teams(which is true anyway)but what about Sydney with all it's white elephants grounds. Some of these grounds are asking for hand-out's for ungrades yet will only get used 3-6 times a year. And it's proven getting a ground upgrade in Rugby League doesn't guarantee you get bigger grounds but more like for some mad reason less people turn up as in the Penrith Panthers.
So Sydney why have you have so-many grounds with so-little use and it must be a drain on tax-payers money.

Sydney Rugby League grounds with capacity.
1.ANZ Stadium (835000).
2.Sydney Football Stadium (455000).
3.Sydney Cricket Ground (44002).
4.Brookvale Oval (23000).
5.Toyota Stadium (215000).
6.CUA Stadium (21000).
7.Oki Jubilee Stadium (20531).
8.Parramatta Stadium (20000).
9.Campbelltown Stadium (20000plus).
10.Leichhardt Oval (20000).
11.North Sydney Oval (20000).
12.Concord Stadium (20000plus it's a Rugby Union venue but still lying with f**k all to do).
13.Bluetougne Stadium (20000 not in Sydney but with out a team of there own and might be lost to Soccer for good).
14.Belmore (25000 talk of having an upgrade with SOME Bulldogs games there).

Seems to me that despite the credit crunch Sydney doesn't mind throwing money away to under used and half filled Rugby grounds.

seems to me you dont really know what your talking about.

why are there so many grounds? becuase the NSWRL was a suburban comp and teams played out of their local ground its that simple. Much the same as most English football teams play out of their local venue.

however some of the grounds you mentioned arent rugby league grounds , the SCG and North sydney oval. first and foremost they are cricket grounds.

Blue tongue isnt in sydney last time i checked.

Most of these stadiums have had nothing spent on them in the last 10 years so i dont know what the credit crunch has got to do with anything.

The SCG isn't a Rugby League ground and is only used sparingly when someone feels like reminiscing.

NSO, has had 2 games in years starting with a 2.

Gosford aint Sydney.

Concord has had 4 games the last of which was 15 years ago.

Belmore hasn't been used in 10 years.

That leaves you with 9.

There are 9 Sydney teams.

Thanks for coming.

U don;t find any UK soccer teams playing out of 2 grounds never mind shifting from one to the other and back or in West Tigers case they don't know where there playing be it ANZ,SFS,SCG,Campbelltown or Leichhardt.
I always thought North Sydney and the SCG where also used as Rugby League venues(pretty sh*t reply off u's 2).
And about Concord it was packed for a couple of ARL games when Penrith and Belmore couldn't do the same and Gosford may not be Sydney but it needs a Sydney team.
Sydney needs 4 NRL grounds and 4 NRL teams.

OK.

Let's go through your "analysis".

1. ANZ Stadium - Interesting capacity - 835000 - That makes it the biggest stadium in the world doesn't it?! Not soley a league field. Built for Olympics and used by ALL football codes, as well as outdoor events such as U2. Gets constant Rugby League use throughout the season.

2. Sydney Footbal Stadium - Again capacity - 455000 - Man, we really have monstrous sized venues... how can people at the back see anything at all? Again used by ALL football codes, and not soley a league field. However, it is still used constantly throughout the season.

3. Sydney Cricket Ground - Sorry, it is a CRICKET GROUND! Are you geniused? Also used for AFL.

4. Brookvale Oval - Older local ground. Used as NRL home ground (average every 2 weeks used). Also used for training purposes, and local park rugby league games.

5. Toyota Stadium - Used as home ground with games on average every two weeks throughout the season. Used to be Sydney Olympic soccer side's home ground. Ground owned by Cronulla Leagues, so maintenance does not cost government. Received little funding by Government for new stand at southern end. Oh and massive capacity - 215000. Even if you meant 21500, I think you will find it is less than that.

6. CUA Stadium - Used as NRL home ground and for training. Provides home for any larger sporting teams placed out west.

7. Oki Jubilee - In the heart of the St George area, used to be used for Cricket as well as league. Gets very regular games in lower grades.

8. Parramatta Stadium - Used regularly for NRL home games. Only had few games taken away for ANZ. Offers venue for larger Rugby and Rugby League events, as well as Soccer events.

9. Campbelltown Stadium - Used very little for top flight league, but still very regular use in lower grades, and great venue for local sporting events.

10. Leichardt Oval - Historic venue. Used very little for top flight league, but still regular lower grade and local competition games.

11. North Sydney Oval - Cricket venue. Doesn't need to be said.

12. Concord Stadium - Not used for league. Still gets sydney rugby use and training ground for Wests Tigers.

13. Bluetongue Stadium - Used occassionally for league. Was never built for sole league use. A-League team based there.

14. Belmore Sports Ground - Still used for local football, is no up to NRL standard.

It seems to me that you have no idea, and say Sydney is just willing to throw money at "White elephant grounds". As demonstrated here, these grounds are never used "3-6 times a year". Unfortunately for you, the government does consider other sports that use the ground and not just rugby league. And I also find it funny that you have no idea about planning out in the west, as well as the local used of these grounds, not to mention you mention Bluetongue, but not WIN, as well as Concord and not Western Weekender.

Please for everyone's sanity, when you get the feeling to start a thread, stop and turn off the computer and walk away.

Just because you THOUGHT it was, doesn't mean it is. And you're argument was these "white elephant grounds" that are used only "3-6 times a year". Clearly, this gets used more.

Hey Teddyboy...........................You're a f**kwit.

Go and have a good tub, a cold beer and a hot pie. As with reality, these are things you're also not in touch with.

Teddy, when a club gets punted, they don't burn down the League's club, tear up the oval and erase all memory of that club. This isn't Nazi Germany.

You forgot Lidcome, Henson, Pratten Park, Birchgrove, Showgrounds (both of 'em), Wentworth Park, and St Johns.

I think our friend was trying to say that putting a little money into old grounds like brookvale, and then a little money into leichart oval, and then some in penrith, is a little bit stupid. Perhaps he feels like I do.

Its my money too, and I demand something be done about this ridiculous spending....i want the money put into a couple of stadiums only, so as to get more from them.

Our friend is right, and your analysis was a bit off too.

absolute rubbish.

You know nothing of sydney and you continue to prove it post after post.

The reality is Manly fans are not going to travel outside of the region to support their team. This is for numerous reasons that anyone that understands sydney would have no trouble coming to grips with.

St george fans have also proven they will not travel to the major venues to support their team, hence why the upgrades to kogarah are happening.

you could make a case for a couple of major stadiums servicing western sydney but this is the only place it it likely to work.

So you either only have teams in sydneys west or you allow those teams in the east to play out of their own grounds.
