Why is perth bid so secretive?!

Their finances will be strong enough to keep them solvent, but they won't have the money needed to compete with the big clubs for the best coaches, recruitment officers, medical staff and elite players.
you really dont know that. Weve seen clubs rise and fall over the years. Penrith from broke to powerhouse, Titans for powerhouse to bankrupt, Warriors up and down financially, Storm from needing extra funds to making major profits, Souths broke to top club and so it goes on.

None of us know what the Perth business case is or what money is behind them. Until then you're just guessing.

If there was substantial wealth we'd know about..

There are no guarantees, you can only go on reasonable assumption when you are trying something in a new market. Reasonable assumption suggests those numbers. Could it be a lot worse? Yes. Is it likely to be a lot worse? no.

That is true, but it comes back to the age old question. Does the NRl want to grow into new markets and attract new customers or just keep servicing its existing ones? I doubt there is anyone in Brisbane who will support Brisbane3 that isnt currently a RL fan. Theres already 2 Brisbane clubs now for them to choose and a further 2 Qlnd clubs if they dont like them. The only differentiator it will have over Dolphins is location.

Perth offers a new club to fans who currently dont have any local option. So if Perth draws 20k fans all up and Brisbane3 draws 25k fans which is the better outcome for the game?

Not all of them. And even the clubs drawing less than 13k dont need gaming revenue anymore thanks to the generosity of the NRL with its $5mill grant increase.

Expansion is means to end. Perth team might bring in an extra 13k fans, but at great cost. Brisbane team sees higher TV revenue with little risk.

There's two things the arlc want regarding expansion, the game to get better and a new team that brings in more players thru, strong ones, not some inkling that they'll come good in 5-10 years,
Instant success needs to be on the agenda...

dolphins ticked plenty of boxes, but if Ipswich got picked instead of them they would have probably been the better bid in regards to junior catchments and better athletes from its local area..but as we've seen the dolphins and broncos seem to be content on bringing in whoever from wherever to buy into their setup, so realistically you CAN have a perth team do the same thing, that same way, but it the issue of who bulks first mentality, regarding WA..

you need to get a coach and a few marquees even before a bid is even looked at as favourable, we all saw how all the off market signings went when the dolphins were pursuing anyone of note, they ended up being a tool to raise the current asking price of the existing club the players were already at.
Perth will struggle as much as Newcastle, Canberra and Gold Coast do, its a shame but i feel its an expansion that should have been kept around to bear fruit now, rather than restarting up now, newsltd were poor on this hindsight, we need to stop exacerbating the lack of perth and focus on what we do well now, and Perth or Adelaide will end up on our doorstep with a better or hungrier bid

We should be trying to grow the sport though, not just appease TV networks who will probably just rip the game off anyway. There are lots of ways a Perth club can be set up where its investing money into local comps and also using a feeder club in the QLD.

Why?! Game getting stronger means more fans, players, sponsorship & money. Bids should be assessed on that. Perth will never produce players ( look at storm after 25 years). Core fan base will be about 10k. Will cost NRL more than it makes..

Are their more juniors in Ipswich than Morton bay?! I don't know about that?! Morton Bay much bigger population as well.

That’s a very defeatist approach to growing your sport to new markets. Basically saying we’ll only ever see pro rugby league in existing markets. No business grows without attracting new customers.

That’s your biased opinion. Wa already is producing nrl and nrlw players so it’s a&air assumption that will grow with increased investment and pathways. There’s a core of 20k fans at least as explained previously. And that’s a starting point, some nrl clubs have been around 50 years plus and don’t have many more than that.

you can’t grow without investment, business 101. Perth shouldn’t cost nrl any more than any other club. If nrl can’t leverage the benefits of bringing Australias 4th biggest city into the comp then it has some serious long term problems.

That’s a really dumb statement.
It's a pure troll from someone who is clearly suffering from mental health issues, I'd go easy on him.

I've never met a person who claims to be a huge Cowboys fan, but hates North Queensland and has never even visited it

We don't know if Perth has 20k RL fans who'll turn up to 12 home games each season. We only know that one-off event games can draw up to 20k. Throw in a double header with tourists and the number jumps to 43k.

The NRL 9s was talked up by Cumins as a dress rehearsal for an NRL team. Only 10k turned up on day one. Just 14k on day two. An average of 12k per day. That's what a Perth-based NRL is likely to average over an NRL season.

Saying a region ignored by our game for 100 years, doesn't have enough interest in our game seems to be an argument lacking in much nuance.

Everything you've said about Perth having 20k active RL fans and a team averaging 18k fans over a season is a baseless. You're incredibly biased when it comes to Perth. You look for reasons to not expand to any location but Perth. The bullshit excuses you use to justify your biased position are hilarious.

Gold Coast went bust building the CoE and having to pay extremely high stadium rental fees. Their business model required them to draw about 18-20k per game.

I cannot see Perth pulling 18k a game over their first 5 years. My biggest issue with Perth is they'll waste a valuable licence thar would draw better value in Brisbane, Christchurch, Gosford or Port Moresby.

So you want Queensland to prop up a Perth-based team that offers no value?

If you want to get to 20 teams then you'll need significantly more revenue -- $51m per annum to fund the annual grant of another 3 teama. PNG pays itself via the Gov funding.

Brisbane 3 will bring in more money from the broadcasters and have money of its own to develop juniors across southern Brisbane and Logan. Perth won't have money for its tiny junior base and will generate nothing from the broadcasters.

SEQ played a huge role in propping up the Storm over 25 years. I don't want SEQ to spend the next 25 years propping up Storm and Perth. You and Perth Red SHOULD be grateful for everything SEQ has done for expansion.

SEQ haven't been forced to supply a dozen or so players to the Storm in last 3 decades.

NZ have supplied more then there fare share to the Storm and to the NRL in general over the years.

But that's how professional sport works.

It's also a huge reason why we need to expand our player pool beyond QLD and NSW.

you have no proof that Brisbane 3 will generate more money from broadcasters, and no, Brisbane ratings for the Broncos and Dolphins being good doesn't necessarily mean broadcasters will pay more for another Brisbane team, unless you're a simpleton, which you are.
