Why little mention of the CQ NRL bid?

Should the NRL introduce two new teams

I personally want a second team in the Brisbane area (dont care where) for the simple fact to dilute the buying power of the Broncos.

If a player wants to play in Brisbane or move home due to homesickness, the Broncos dont have to offer a whole lot to sign them. Since the Titans have been into the comp this has made it slightly more difficult.

If a player wants to move to Sydney then they will have several clubs begging for them to sign. Hence all of the overpayed and under performing players like Chris Sandow and Adam Blair.

Just my only personal beef with the Broncos and their massive geographical advantage and uncontested sponsprship dollars.

Sorry to be slightly off topic...or massively off topic even.

A CC team is just as crazy, if not more crazy then as a CQ team.

Established club, ground, sponsors and a catchment area with unlimited potential.

Ultimately I think there's going to be 20 teams in the NRL, with Perth, Wellington, Brisbane 2 and Central Coast filling out the teams.

They've probably already considered moving Sydney clubs, why would they ever add another one to that region??

There's only so many people that are willing to go to games, willing to watch and willing to sponsor clubs. 11 in NSW is too many. the NRL needs to expand its catchment and fanbase to places like Perth and Melbourne, not further dilute support by adding more clubs to NSW.

NSW is large enough to warrant 11 teams. A second Melbourne team would be an absolute waste of time when the Storm are on a knife-edge as it is.

I'm sorry but no, just no.

This argument has played out on this site a million times and every time the side saying that Sydney cannot support another team (let alone the ones they already have) always makes the most logical and practical arguments.

As for the rest of NSW, there isn't a population base large enough to support an NRL team by themselves that doesn't already have a team, and even if there were an area large enough to support a team, that market certainly wouldn't be as valuable as say the Perth or Adelaide markets or the under serviced markets of Brisbane, Melbourne and all of NZ outside of Auckland (which technically isn't a single market but for a second NZ team to be viable it'd need to draw a fan base from all over NZ for a time).

Also placing another licence in NSW wouldn't be expanding the NRL's geographical footprint at all, which is only a minor negative, but still a negative to the NRL in it's current situation.

Talking just to the CC Bears situation now.

There's no way that the CC would be able to support a team by themselves (they can't even support a much cheaper A-league club), the corporate and sponsorship money just isn't there.

So to survive they'd have to do what the Mariners are doing and push into Northern Sydney, which the NRL (in it's current setup) simply cannot afford, as the Sydney market is already an over saturated market that needs to be rationalised for the competition to be sustainable for the long term.

Even if the CC were a viable option (which they're not), they still wouldn't be as financially or tactically valuable to the NRL as other options would be (that are viable long term).

BTW who's suggesting a second Melbourne based team be part of the current expansion talks!?

The CQ NRL Bid, CQ Leagues Club and CQ Capras CEO, Denis Keeffe has submitted his resignation which takes effect on Friday 30th January 2015, to Chairman Geoff Murphy.

http://www.capras.com.au/2015/01/cq-capras-ceo-denis-keeffe-resigns/

Everyone keeps raving on about what a good job he has done with the Capras. I can,t see it. They have gone backwards since the NRL bid team took over. I have never seen a sporting team that so underperforms but still, gets favourable publicity. They are talking finals next year. if they can,t get the Intrust Cup right they have little hope in the NRL.

Harbin went better with mostly locals and only player match payments due to the 250k debt at the time.
They have went better than the previous board with aspects such as crowds (still have been better), memberships, financially rebuilding etc

Finals will be certainly difficult but they do have some quality key signings. Blackhawks look very strong. PNG are full time. Burleigh look.strong. Easts and Pride are very strong. Falcons are with Storm now. Wynnum and Jets will be up there again

The new signings. What worries me is that the team will be picked on names and not form. Hetherington has virtually stated that White will be the fullback. So much for the incumbent who is one of their best players. Minto has been here before and been average. I can,t get too excited about a couple of other blokes who coudn,t even cut it at NYC level.

Onfield performance is not the barometer of a good CEO...

No idea, i dont follow the Qld Cup teams.

But, the same can be asked of you. Aside from the team becoming shit (not his fault or problem), what has he done to be considered a failure?

Then if you don,t follow the Intrust Cup you wouldn't know the history behind how the NRL Bid Team took control of the Capras. Keeffe was highly critical of the old regime stating the processes needed to be put in place to move the Capras forward. Two years down the track (for all the hype and name dropping) their results have gone backwards. These are the people who want an NRL licence.

You miss The Doctor's point.

On field results aren't Keeffe's job, his job is to make sure that the club is well run and is making ends meat.

So apart from on field results which aren't Keeffe's direct responsibility, how have the Capras gone backwards since the bid team took over?

Are they losing more money then they used to, are they struggling to attract sponsors when they didn't before, etc.

When the NRL a Bid Team took over they sacked the coach and all associated staff and appointed the coach we had to have, Hetherington. He has been unable to attract the quality of players that a coach of his so called status was supposed to attract. On field performance has not improved. Links with the Broncos has all but finished with them providing little on field assistance through allocation of players. The tail end of the season saw senior players dropping out to play in local league finals. All fairly amateurish. I am sure these are not the processes needed to create a successful football team. I thought it all started in the front office. The NRL bid office.

Im with Beave, love to have him back as CEO at the Cowboys.

I feel that he, and lots of others, basically stole money from the CQ bid team on essentially a pipe dream over the years though.

Just read on the local paper's fb that Rockhampton State MP Bill Byrne will be minister for agriculture, fisheries, SPORT and Racing. Basically rewarded for being one of 7/8 labor mps left in qld after the 2012 election. No excuses not to get the stadium funding now. But probably won't affect it
