Why Queensland have won eight straight

May I remind everyone here - eight years ago Phil Gould wrote an article for a Sydney newspaper, almost demanding that Darren Lockyer stand aside from the Queensland side, and give another player an opportunity.

According to Mr Gould, Darren Lockyer was past his prime, washed up, not up to standard.

In the ensuing game, the NSW crowd watched aghast in the dying minutes of a gripping decider as Darren Lockyer swooped on a dropped NSW ball, ran about 12 metres and scored to give Queensland the win.

Darren Lockyer went on to captain Queensland in four of the next five series wins.

But that's not why Queensland have continued to dominate at State of Origin. It goes a little deeper.

Back in the 1970s and earlier, NSW financed by the poker machines that were outlawed in Queensland, poached Queensland's top players and paraded them in interstate games as NSWers, thrashing Queensland teams year after year. The arrogance. The lack of respect. Queensland got used to annual floggings at the hands of players nurtured and groomed in their own state.

There is a universal principal alive in the earth - you reap what you sow. It's as simple as that. NSW continue to reap. Get used to it.

Just shows Queenslanders have no loyalty. Will play for NSW if the money is right.

Pokies in the 70's are why Queensland are winning now?

Alcohol consumption while your mother was pregnant is why you're an idiot

Go preach elsewhere f**kwit

My forefathers were those that sat at Lang Park during those multiple floggings by our own players and these grand gentlemen will not allow that fire to burn out.

And nor should they.

Stark reminder was given to our state that eight years is paltry. NSW held the interstate trophy from 1959 until the first Origin contest.

We will never let up, we will never stop. Mercy is for the weak.

It's funny you say that Daz. Back before Game 2 of the 2006 series, I recall more than one Qld poster on here saying Lockyer was useless at Origin level and even Sean Rudder would outplay him. I don't expect the culprits to come forward but even as a fan of the team who had won the previous 3 series, I thought it was a bit harsh.

Secondly, you talk about Qld's motivation for Origin coming from the thrashings NSW used to deliver to them in the interstate series. You can laugh at the 8 year old kids in NSW all you want, but what do you think this run of Qld victories is doing for them? At least a few of those kids are going to end up playing for NSW, even as it is the NSW lower grades are dominating. Have you noticed what this run of Qld victories has done for the NSW support? If anything, it has galvanised it. Slater, Cronk, Inglis and Thurston will not play forever. What are you going to be left with when they're gone?

As you said, you reap what you sow...

You can reject what I saw, but can't reject the reality in front of you (well you can reject reality, but you end up looking like an idiot).

qld won because you have slater, smith and Cronk.

End of story

Don't try and turn it into a moral crusade

You sir are an idiot looking for a village.

Just to piss on your parade somewhat, Lockyer, Price and 70centsalitre were TOLD by the Qld selectors that if Qld lost that game, they were finished. Gus didn't do it, the Qld selectors did.

You might not recall but the Qld management begged to be allowed to select GI, claiming that the future of origin was at stake, even though GI knew he wasn't eligible.

Then we have to endure years of rubbish decisions from refs, last year being exhibit A, GI knock on and Hodges obstruction, both shown to later to be the wrong decisions, but once again, as long as Qld were happy, NSW just had to accept it.

At some point the wheel will turn and lets see how well Qlder's handle it, I do recall that after our 3 series wins in the early 2000's, Gordy Tallis was quoted as saying Origin was dead.

Karma is going to bite you merkins big time.

NSW supports may scoff at what I've posted here, but little do they know that Meninga still brings out old Queensland players from pre-Origin days to speak to the players every year.

Old Queensland players, who were in teams that were flogged by 40+ points, speak to the player group about playing against old team mates dressed in Blue. They speak of the humiliation. They speak of the arrogance of the NSW Rugby League in parading their superiority. They speak of Australian teams completely dominated by NSW players with often one or two token Queenslanders.

You reap what you sow. It's a universal principal.

They didn't have a choice. They went south to Sydney to earn a decent wage playing CLUB footy, and when they performed well were forced to play for NSW - no choice was involved. It was mandatory.

Yes, and this is EXACTLY what NSW are going to do in coming years. As you have said twice, you reap what you sow...

Also Village, seems Qld aren't too fussy on who they select.

Just off the top of my head;

GI,
Adrian Lam,
Tonie Carroll,
Brad Thorn,
Israel Folau,
Nev Costigan,

You are kidding yourself and just making the fall even greater when the wheel turns...........

Not really, it is part of our culture. Boys and girls in our state grow up dreaming of representing Queensland.

We will not stop in our endeavours just because it means much less so for you.

And I put this to you ... why is Phil Gould still regarded as such an expert, when he made the biggest WRONG call in rugby league history, declaring Darren Lockyer a spent force eight years ago.

After Mr Gould made this bold prediction, Darren Lockyer went on to win another two grand finals with the Broncos, four state of origins, numerous test series of Australia and won the golden boot.

And yet Mr Gould is the one paraded out front before EVERY State of Origin game as the all-knowing, unassailable expert of State of Origin.

Yet another example of NSW arrogance. Don't think they will ever learn.
