the fact is me and many other supporters would rather watch st george - illawarra dragons

than follow a team called super league dragons

your team after 1997 is and will always be super league sharks

you owe everything you have to news ltd
once uncle rupert decides he has had enough

sharks can pack their bags

flights to the coast are quite cheap these days

It's not a merger when 2 teams become 1? #-o

You guys aren't very bright aren't you? What do you call it on the road when 2 lanes become 1? Is that merging? Hmmm, I think that's what it is. BYE BYE! =;

Your foolishness is amusing,

A Joint Venture is not a merger, look it up.

I don't have to freak ( )

Your team is extinct. You follow a merged entity. Two teams became one. You need to look up the word reality.

two clubs didnt't become one

so there is no merger

merging lanes on the road has no significance

go back to school

year 11 business studies may help you

perhaps year 9 commerce
if you can handle it

I ain't your brother and as for being wise, a play on words doesn't change the fact that St.george do not play 1st grade football anymore. I know a St. George Illawarra that does. No St.George though. Off you go, back to the 3 posts a day in the dragons forum. Bye Bye.

Its quite simple really. Those teams that merged or entered into a joint venture but wanted to keep their original identity, still field a stand-alone team in the NSWRL where it all began.

Balmain
Wests
Norths
Newtown

These teams somehow manage to maintain their original identity as a team.

No Illawarra
No StGeorge
No heart
No soul

You have the name St. George still there but it is part of a new team. I'd love to see your playing roster if you hadn't merged. No Barrett, Timmins, Bailey, Ryles and the list goes on forever. I think it was more a case of your survival than Illawarra's.

In 20 or 50 or 100 years time the kids won't know a St George as an entity just a passing (little ) page in the history books.

Little Johnny will say to grandpa"Pa where did the Illawarra Dragons get their name from"

and Pa will say "well son back a millenia or so they used to be a Sydney team, can you believe that!"

 That's alright, because little Johhny will then say "Pa, who was the Dragons main rival back then?"

Well sonny, it was a team called the Sharks, but they were never financially stable and went bust for good after moving up to the Gold Coast and just dissolved."

I dont understand what the fans of this ex-club who now play most of their home games away from their former home ground and area are always gloating that one day the Sharks MAY (although they almost certainly wont) play on the Gold Coast.

If any club should be nervous Red Dragon, it is yours. Financially they are on the slide big time. They are not viable as a sponsor to any financial institutions what soever because of the name. So there is about 100 of Australia top companies & companies owned by those entities out of the running straight away.
In case you don't get it, it's like this, can you ever picture the Westpac STgeorge Dragons?
Sort of like the Hot Tuna Dolphins you see. Very ugly in the eyes of the public.

You then also have the ageing infastructure. The club is a 70's joke. They should have held the Starsky & Hutch premiere there.

Your bank balance is under pressure now the joint venture funds are finished with & you cannot attract finance because you own very little of value. Although a few smart developers haf offered to reconstruct the leagues club down in Illawarra in exchange for the land your current abortion sits on.

Also the local community is changing its shape at a rapid pace in your electorate. Asian families are the majority of real estate pruchasers in the area now & they couldn't give a f**k about league. They might look up when they see Melbourne play & they hear the name Chan. But thats it.

& now the biggy, the StGeorge BankMajor Sponsor!
This bank will be taken over in the next two years, more than likely by the ANZ or West Pac. The brand will be then killed off, deliberately.
So bye bye major sponsorship.

so how does it sit.
Over the next few years, the joint venture club will be weakened by one partner who is becoming increasinly less liquid through falling fan numbers, ageing infrastructure & no viable long term major sponsors.

The wheel turns Mr dragon & you've had your turn through the 60's. Time to feed at the bottom for a few decades now for you guys. Very grim unless the Steelers start taking more of a role & cash in on their growth area as opposed to the slums where you come from.
