Why you will and why you wont ?

I was curios to see why people think their team will do well and also why they wont.

Why we will
Numerous mobile young forwards, excellent pack, IMO the best centre playing the game, tall strong outside backs.

Why we wont
Experimentation of gaz at 5/8 and what shape that will take, loss of experienced players.

Warriors.

why we will,
the young talent coming through the ranks is mind blowing.
Ivan Cleary is going to become a world class coach
we now have a prem league side.

why we might not...
our halves combo needs stability. we have always struggled at #6. Ropati needs to step up this year and repay clearys faith in him.
our senior players are getting pretty senior.

Why we will
We have some key players in key positions.
Johns.

Why we wont
Dont know what reaction our players will have to the new coach.
Playing roster probably isnt as good as last year, there will be too much relying on Johns IMO.

My head is probably leaning towards we wont win it this year, but im hoping we do.

Why we will:
Improved facilities, staff, players
Excellent forward pack and bench
Good juniors talent
Jason Taylor

Why we won't:
Weakness in the halves and three quarters
Lack of experienced 'depth' players
Because we're South Sydney

Why?
Because no-one expects us to. lack of expectation can potential make or break a team. If Head stays fits all year we all know he can create magic & he could very well get Dally M if this is the case.
With Bailey gone Ryles will take a lot of responsibility on himself & so will the young forward pack who IMO took a back seat whenever the big guns were playing.
Gasnier will turn into a superstar at 5/8th, being as damaging as he was at centre.

Why we won't?
Barrett, our captain & most talented player gone ? Bailey, who IMO is the best prop in the game gone ? Our best back & forward gone ? PU-lease... they couldn't win the premiership with them, how the f*ck are they gonna win without them ?!
Gasnier at 5/8th ? That pr*ck can't pass, can't kick. Yeah, awesome 5/8th  .
& Head ? That guy is so soft he couldn't even get head in the first place. A team can't win anything without a good halfback, & he'll prolly only play 3 games before he get injured.

Broncos

Why

Best backline in the comp. Forward pack is fine and they will not miss Webcke that much.

Not

Injury or lack of hunger for success.

Why?

Backline looks stronger with the arrival of J. Lyon.

Why we won't

Loss of Ben Kennedy.

Why we will:
With Marshall back, should have brilliant attacking flair with playmaking options in Marshall, Farah, Hodgson and (hopefully) Morris.

Why we won't:
Forwards look very weak, especially the front row. Unless there is a return to allowing quicker play the balls we may struggle big time.

Melbournes backline is easily the best in the comp IMO.

Slater, King, Inglis, Quinn, Cronk and Turner (when he recovers from the broken leg he'll suffer in pre-season)

Why?
Bowen had a terrible 2006 - will be looking to blow the comp appart in 2007
Experience and level headedness of Jason Smith alongside Thursty
Definate Halves this year instead of trying 25 different combos.

Why not?
Coach missing again at Origin time
Jason Smith not likely to play a whole season
Scott Minto is somewhere in North QLD.

Why we will?

Because the critics say we wont, and the talent in the squad is far greater then most care to admit, we have the players coming through to forge a real dynasty if they acheive all they are capible of. William Zillman, Todd Carney, Michael Weyman, Thom Learoyd Lahrs and Joe Picker are all Aussie rep players if they fullfil their potential (big if i know as alot of players dont fullfil potential)

Why we wont?
A little too wet behind the ears in all the major positions, from fullback, to the halves, through to the coach, all have strong potential but as it stands its only that, and even if they do become as good as i think they will, it will take time. 2007 is a little early to be looking at a premiership, this is a year to lay the foundations for an assult on 08-09 and beyond.

All personal opnion of course, but Hunt is better than Hornby.

Hunt has proven that the last few times he's played us eh, Charles? ;-)

Aaaanyhoo.....

Why we will:

The last of Brownies ex team-mates have now gone. It will be his coming of age as a coach. We have exceptional forward depth (arguably the best in the comp) even with the loss of Bull Bailey, and a stack of junior talent. The weight of expectation is lighter too. We work better as underdogs (1996 for example). Add to that some mongrel at hooker with the signing of Woolford, and able backup in Rangi Chase things aren't looking too bad in Dragonland at this stage.

Why we won't:

While we have options in the halves such as R. Williams (thanks Souths!), and Rangi Chase (watch this kid - thanks Tigpies!) if Gaz at 6 doesn't work, they don't have much FG experience and that could count against us at rep time and in the finals if our main halves are injured.

Id rate Broncos backline above Dragons, the combination with Lockyer and Hunt is the standout for me. But I'd take Melbourne's over both.
Anyway...Roosters
Will: Good blend of experience and youth. Potential for brilliance all over the park, if the new coach can bring out that potential should go well. I see us having excellent depth, as most of the Premier League team have had first grade experience, and will be better players for it. And really, we can't get any worse than last year...(well we can. But best not to think about that)

Wont: Even with all the younger blokes being more experienced, they are still young. Potential can only get them so far, last year many failed to live up to it, and if that form continues we could have another sorry year

Wouldn't be suprised to see Hornby at 5/8 and Morris at fullback at some stage in the season. Pretty sure he blitzed it from fullback in the lower grades.

Raiders
WILL - All the younger brigade will gel under coach Henry and catch some of the higher profile sides by suprise, as they did a couple of years ago. Bickerstaff will toil, Costigan will stay off the piss and Frawley will play every game and find some old bronco form - I hope.

WON'T - Lost too many/all senior players with big game experience. Will come with time, but I still think they still require at least 1-2 experienced final/rep players in the side to be successful in the short term. Deffinate rebuilding year for the youger guys to gain experience.

*options a) & b) are deciding whether Anderson will prefer a larger more defensive 5-8 or not, we might also see Williams in FG in place of Monaghan, Tupou starting ahead of Myles, Meredith starting ahead of one of the Paea's, & Willie Brown instead of Nuuausala

Why we will:

Big, rawboned pack, speed in the backs, young halves, new coach, balance of youth & experience, strongest PL side in years, 100th season spurs them on

Why we won't:

Flannery/Monaghan flank will lack pace, young halves may be weak defensively & inexperienced, lots of players coming off contract, too many locks means Flannery is out of pos at centre, Harrison is out of pos as a hooking utility (unless he swaps with Doyle & drops to PL)

In an attempt to get this back on track, and not let it be lost or sidetracked (sorry Immortal & Saab ;-) )

I'll do melbournes

Will
Most exciting young backline in many years, very very quick.
Solid hard working forward pack, and the hurt of being the most dominate side for 26 weeks and falling at the last hurdle.

Wont
The emotional letdown of loosing last years GF, playing too much of a structured style of play (to a lesser extent cronk, inglis etc are not so much "unknown" quantities) IMO they dont have as much ability to play off the cuff, the rely on a solid structure too much.

I know some storm fans will strongly disagree, remember its only an opinion

Why we will:

One of the most naturally gifted footballers in the NRL in Thurston
A good backrow with flair and workhorses.
If Matty Bowen 2005 comes back, look out.

Why we wont:

Very light on upfront depthwise
A reliance on Jason Smith could kill us if he gets a season ending injury.
If Matty Bowen 2006 turns up, forget it.

Roosters

Will:
If player positions are worked out correctly we will have a very strong team across the park
100th season passion may make the difference in winning tight matches or being just that little more driven to win
Stuart GONE
Anderson + Fittler may make an excellent coaching pairing
Plenty of representative players (experience/skill)
Plenty of depth and upcomers

Wont:
Player positions not worked out correctly
Lack of speed in centres
Injuries (I guess :p)

Why we will:

Great mix in the team - young and old talent, and everyone does their job well.
X-factor players throughout the side - Hunt, Hodges, Lockyer, Berrigan, Thaiday.
Young talent like Thaiday, Hannant and Taylor will be hungry to fill the void left by Webcke.
Outstanding coaching and conditioning staff.
Lockyer.

Why we won't:

Can we cover the loss of Webcke?
The curse of the premiers - injuries could hurt us a lot, despite the talent we have rising through the ranks.
Teams once again seeing the aura around the Broncos, and rising to the occassion each week.
Complacency - a lot of young guys in the team haven't won a premiership before, and they could wrongly think it's an easy task.
Most importantly, the 15 other teams in the NRL. Let's face it - they are all strong sides on paper... every single one of them. If we only play at 80% against ANY of them, we'll get beaten.
