Widdop seeks release

Yep, just goes to show that he isn't a highly respected captain/player by any means.
I'd love a 5/8 or 7 that could close a tight game out, lead the troops, kick a field goal, nail that sideline conversion to win. Widdop and Hunt are good halves but won't win a tight semifinal.
They are mentally weak unfortunately.

Widdop is not Thurston.
But the gap between his best games and poor games is very small.

As to pressure, the guy has kicked goals under pressure season in season out, even in big games.

If you add the amount of times we have taken the "2" , and won, it adds up. He's done well IMHO. Lets not forget since coming to the club he has only had 1 year with a proper 7.

I've been given some information on Josh Reynolds. I'm hearing the Wests Tigers are shopping him to the St George Illawarra Dragons who are keen to sign him for season 2020 and beyond!.

This will give the Wests Tigers an opportunity to sign Shaun Johnson in 2020. As w... See More

Having seen his interview, you may wish to join us.

Very unconvincing.

Another footballer chasing his own personal goals.

Don't know why clubs bother to sign contracts with players. The contracts are worthless.

Club captain?

Unimpressed.

Let us hope his commentary doesn't undermine the 2019 campaign.
I can't remember your contributions to this thread, so I'm unsure if my comment was directed at you.

What exactly is your complaint about him now?

"Before signing his most recent contract just last year, which was worth $1 million a season, Halifax-born Widdop did express am ambition to return home given he joined the Melbourne Storm system at 16.

"It's not immediate, it may be never. It's just something in the back of his mind", a friend close to Widdop said.

"He will be there next year. The club doesn't have to let him go and he certainly hasn't drawn a line in the sand."

"It's like three guys sitting around a table having a beer and one says he might go to England, and that's it. It's all got out of hand."

Comments from his player manager above..Points to unreavel the spin
1. Sounds like his manager has been told to best repair the damage again publicly probably that he leaked to get the ball rolling in the first place without his consent.
2. I think $1 mill a year is a nice even throw around figure and I did not think he was on that much
3. Who was the 3rd person round the table with Widdop and his manager when Widdop expressed his dream again.
4. Now the media got hold of a friend of his (likely a player) to smooth the waters about something that he has said publicly a few years ago.
5. So he never asked for a release, but someone did Mr Sutton!, otherwise why the story out there mate.

It was leaked for a reason, excuse my cynicism.

So why do you think he doesn't have the respect of many of the fans?

I would like to see him released now and 2019 used as a building year. There may not or may not be a 5/8 available but instead of worrying too much about this sign up two or three of the best young players regardless of position. We would have Widdops money, Haynes money and the remainder which all up must be something over $1.5 million. Salary cap increase next year funds the 5/8 we need but in the meantime we have a super competitive squad, with some exceptional value and quality, in waiting for 2020.

I am not a fan of Dufty but in this scenario I wouldn't mind giving him another year to prove himself.

Because they have NFI.
I disagree. I think most fans have a good FI.
They expect a lot from the captain of their club. They want a leader of men. They want someone to find a way to get the players heads up when the chips are down. In their number 6 they want a player that can ice a game when needed. A player that can kick that field goal, nail that 40/20 or big play when necessary.
A captain and 5/8 play maker earning big coin has very high expectations and its pretty clear to me that he hasn't quite fulfilled those expectations for many on here including myself.

Millward has now come out and stated they have been discussing the matter with Widdop and his manager for a number of weeks. In essence, the news articles whilst not entirely accurate, were also not far off the mark.

Widdop doesn't intend to see out his contract.

My point is you were ticked off by the overreaction of forum members to the reports that Widdop had asked for a release. Widdop isn't "homesick". He merely wants to tick another box from his bucket list.

Its natural for supporters to be upset with the suggestion their captain plans to jump ship.

Yes, some of the guys may have expressed their opinions passionately, however, your response in getting stuck into those forum members was equally inappropriate.

I would say it 70/30
30 per cent think he is our best player
You know....the blind or insane ones
What’s the go with you and percentages lately?

I reckon at least 12.5% of your posts have random percentages..

I thought I was awfully restrained.

And I specifically mentioned those who questioned widdop's integrity. If the story is exactly as you say, he has put the club ahead of his own personal goals in order to play for us in 2019. The people who jumped the gun assuming he'd left is in the lurch can refer to my previous post.
