Anthony Griffin in the mix to assist Ricky Stuart at Canberra Raiders

CANBERRA has emerged as a possible destination for dumped Brisbane coach Anthony Griffin, with the Raiders on the lookout for assistants to bolster Ricky Stuarts coaching staff next season.
Brett Kimmorley is the kicking coach at Canberra but is on the shortlist of candidates to replace Wayne Bennett at Newcastle while Matt Parish may return to Sydney next year for personal reasons.
Griffin has had a long association with the Raiders, which goes back to his days of coaching their feeder club, Souths Logan, in the Queensland Cup in the 2003-04 seasons.
The Australian understands that the Raiders offered Griffin a position as an assistant to former coach Dave Furner back in 2009 after having been impressed with his work with the Broncos under-20s team in 2008-09.
Griffin was believed to be interested in the job but the deal fell through after he was told to stay put by Brisbane management because there could be an opportunity to be appointed as an assistant to Broncos coach Ivan Henjak in 2010.
Raiders chief executive Don Furner did not want to go into detail about the situation yesterday other than to say that the club held Griffin in high regard and he had done a solid job in his three years at the Broncos. You always consider good employees and good candidates and hes a terrific bloke and a terrific coach, Furner said. Nothings out of the question.
Former ARL chief executive John Quayle, who sits on an advisory board charged with finding a new coach for Newcastle, told The Australian on Monday that the club could consider Griffin as an option to replace Bennett. It is understood the Knights are focused on appointing a local candidate.
