The Triple M Grill Team's Matty Johns up in Sydney has given the AFL a whack for being arrogant in relation to the way it's promoting the Sydney Swans v Greater Western Sydney Giants clash as a blockbuster and issued a plea to Israel Folau.
The former NRL star is not having much success for the fledgling AFL club and Johns reckon it's unfair that AFL identities are queuing up to whack him.
"Israel Folau .. I feel so sorry for that bloke. Now they're just bashing him up and laughing. Even Fevola the other day was like 'ho ho ho, Israel!'. Well Fev, I'd like to see you take a few hit-ups and do what Israel could do in Rugby League," said Johns, who also referred to AFL legend Matthew Lloyd and him saying Folau's senior selection is always tokenism.
"The AFL were the ones who got him there, righto, and they've extracted cheap publicity for him and now they're trying to throw him on the scrapheap. Israel, come home brother."
Mark Geyer said he understands why Folau took the money but predicted that Folau will be back in the NRL within two years.
Folau has played seven senior games this year and is averaging just six possessions. He has kicked one goal.

Lets be frank about this; Folau has been a all round failure in terms of an AFL player, and Matty is absolutely correct when he says that GWS are done with him now that they have extracted publicity from him.


So Geyer suggests he will be back in the League within 2 years. Do you agree? I actually do which is rare. The new T.V Rights deal will be the catalyst. A club will be cashed up and they will snag him.


My bets for which club are possible returns to Melbourne and Brisbane, or perhaps the Knights wanting to shore up their playing roster after their underwhelming performance this year.

When he comes back I don't think he should command big bucks as hes been set up for life by the AFL.

he has become a bit of a laughing stock but for the coin that he got im pretty sure i could handle being laughed at by an entire football code, i wouldnt take it to heart but because deep down i would know i had ultimately won because AFL is shit

If you listen to the podcast from the 29th of June, you can hear some comments from heavy hitters in the AFL like Garry Lyon and Sam Newman.

Newman, amazingly, said something that is spot on: "The AFL will never bump off the NRL in QLD and NSW and the NRL will never bump the AFL off in the rest of the states and that is the way it will stay forever."

Say what you want about Newman, but he's right here.

Outside backs are the least of our worries. Especially with Gagai showing promise now. Tahu will most likely finish up after 2013/2014, but there is a bunch of promising juniors coming through.

Agreed. But the NRL will have teams with permanent bases in places in QLD, NSW & ACT (Townsville, Newcastle, Illawarra, Canberra - GWS doesn't count :lol that the AFL is unlikely to ever have. Meanwhile there might be further NRL expansion in QLD & the Central Coast, something the AFL is also unlikely to ever achieve. That would make it 4 AFL teams vs 14 NRL teams...

At the same time the NRL need only build up support for teams in Perth & eventually Adelaide and strengthen the Storm. None of which would cannibalise each other the way the Suns & GWS have.

Back on topic though - somebody get Folau a two piece feed - STAT!
