they have battled hard over the past two years to come up with a competitive team and it's never essy to start from scratch.

Being one of the foundation clubs in the ARL along with the Rooster, and Newcastle, Balmain etc it would be good to see them go well next year.

I for one would love to see them donkey lick a few teams like they did to Wests again this year like they did last year.

My thoughts are with you guys for the seAson to come and I hope it is better than last year.

The team purchases look good and with a good captain like Fletcher results will surely start to come your way..

Thanks for those kind sentiments!! I too think Souths will improve, but a lot will depend on key players remaining (largely) injury free, Specifically Fletch, Stringer (and the other props) , McDougall & Hill. If those players play most games then I have no doubt a better season will result.

Another key area will be 1/2back - Souths will have much greater depth in that area than last year as well (Peters, Byrne, Kearney, Williams).

By all accounts Souths off season traing has started very well, so the signs are looking positive.

It will probably be a while till Souths can match it with the heavyweights, but they should be competitive at least, and win their fair share against the lesser lights.

A competitive souths team would do wonders for the NRL so from that perpective I certainly hope they can improve. Whether they've got the players is another matter.

I think that Souths must improve because we cant have another year as bad as this.
Injuries are a part of rugby league but Souths really had it bad this year.

Young blokes like Mark Minichello, Brett Kearney, Fili Lolohea will be good for the experience theyve had this year and hopefully can continue to improve.

Hopefully some of the younger juniors we have on the horizon can continue their good development, see blokes like John Sutton, Buddy Gordon, among other.

if all of this can come together, and we can keep our problems out of the papers, we could have a fair year.

Having Souths in the final series would be a great thing for the NRL, not being biased at all but Souths is like a sleeping giant at the moment. Everyone carries on about the 40000 fans which have abandoned Souths since our comeback in 2002 but if we can be successfull on the field we can fill the SFS every week no problem.

I do believe that the lesser sides like the Rabbits, Cowboys, Sharks, Tigers and Dragons all improving a great amount. I see the sides like Sea Eagles and Bulldogs who have lost some valuable players maybe just slide down the ladder

I honestly feel that the souths playing roster and current coaching staff is not strong enough to warrant them improving at all.

Langmack has done the right things by souths in getting all the boys back to training for next season already, I guess the main problem with that is they might start to suffer towards the end of the season more so than other clubs, yet they might start the season off with a bang.

Souths really havn't got anything to loose for the 2004 season so they could become the darkhorse for many clubs, especially the West Tigers, but in reality I do see them improving but not to the extent of challenging for a top 10 position

I see Unit's point and agree, A squad like souths, Is not the most talented in the league, a fair bit of inexperience coupled with some experienced guys does however give them a chance. Last year i dont think Langmack was the right coach for the right situation, he was really no better than coleman(very little experience, coleman actually had more).
So this season, Souths should expect to win more than 3 games, surely, and finally langmack has a squad where he doesnt have to rely so heavily on his own work, players like hill, mcdougal and Fletcher will each add something to their side.

Good luck truely guys for 2004, lets just hope u win more than 3 games.

Honestly, I don't think he has a strength. The club needs a quality First grade coach who knows how to run a team, Instead of forking out hundreds of thousands of dollars on players I'd be more interested in getting a top quality coach-If you really want to be successful this would be the starting point.

Brian Smith is a coach who I think is quite remarkably docile. Look at the teams that he's had in the past and he very rarely gets the to the finals. Whereas Graham Murray took over the reins at the Cowboys and look at the success that they began generating this season, and then take a look at their playing roster.

Souths Need a coach if they are to improve-plain and simple. Langmack is a Maccas manager and not a coach-he should be replaced for the well being and continued success of the club

i think that they will do extremely well next year.....ive been a bunnies fan since i was born although i also luv de Knights but it has been a heartbreaking few years for me and many utha Rabbit supporters but i still have faith that with a squad like the one we have for next year we will do really well!! :roll:

They'll improve (6-7 wins) but the way the competition is tightening up, I'm afraid they'll still be collecting the spoon. Terry Hill was a great signing (Another Forward Leader), but Souths could have bought a few talented youngsters instead of Macdougall

If some of the young blokes can get some confidence, and we can get even a small bit of momentum, then that would be an improvement. I hope that we can.
I think that we need some sort of success next season to survive when the licences are renewed. However if we can survive that long, I think we have ALOT of young talent that will be very beneficial to the club in the future.
I think in a few years time we will have some great players coming through (even though we payed for most of them) and everyone will forget that it was the Langmack regime that was responsible for these kids being at the club, and whoever the coach is at the time (I don't think it'll be Langmack) will be getting all the praise for the success.
I for one will try and remember the players that have been bought in under the Langmack regime so that when they become superstars I can give the credit where it's due.[/img]

well, Souths have bought ALOT of young players since the anti tampering deadline. I don't just mean guys who were languishing infirst division. I mean juniors. People like Joe Williams, Troy Boston with Beau Champion. I honestly don't know Langmack's strenghth at coach. He was doing a fine job until a few near misses helped the players to lose confidence in him and possibly him to lose confidence in himself. Hopefully he'll start a new this season and can get on top of things.
I don't even know how much Langmack had to do with these recruitments, but still...
All I meant from the other post is that if these young blokes start playing really well in say 3 or 4 years time, and some other coach has been gifted with a good squad, I'm going to remember who did the hard yards for the club. Cause if things continue the way that they are, Langmacks reputation will go down the drain without anyone noticing the good things he has done for the club

mcdougal was hitting great form when he came back this year for the knights. provided he stays injury free he'll be great adding some options to souths attack
